Maybe since they will have it they want to let other potential buyers test drive? If so, thats jacked up.
AMG engines are broken in on the bench at the factory, and your car should be delivered with almost no mileage. The first 1k miles are yours to break in the transmission.
If you really want to roast him, give MBUSA a shout and tell 'em your story. Seriously, this is an absolute farce.

i guarantee they are going to use it for test drives.

When cars go through preparation center they are driven on test track to complete number of tests and adjustments.
So it is not unusual.
Do not worry about it.

Tell him to put exactly what he says about putting mileage on the car for testing in writing so you can approve it.
Additionally post his name & dealership on the forum!
It will get back to MB pretty quick I am sure!
Good luck & take charge after all it's your dollars!

AMG breaks the motor in on a dyno at the factory - they are all hand build, and if they don't pass a set of performance tests, they never make it to a car. It's been over a year since I did the tour, but the cars are packed for shipping with nothing on the odometers, and as I mentioned before, I see cars waiting on their new owners with < 5 miles on them all the time. (I don't live very far from London's premier AMG dealer - http://www.mercedes-benzbromley.co.uk )
If mine has miles like that, they can keep it. I'll take my cashiers check to someone else.Seems like every day I hear about some new horror stories at a dealer. Now I have to watch every dealer employee to make sure they don't drive it, scratch it, rag on it, dirty it, play my radio, smoke in it, jack with my seat settings, ect. " Just fix my car ", otherwise leave it alone.

My salesman who I have dealt with on over 15 MB cars called to make sure it was alright to take it to the gas station to top off the tank!
The mileage is mainly driving it onto the transporter from the factory.
Then transporter to pier and then off the ship.
Then back onto another loader at Baltimore, Jacksonville wherever etc.
There is absolutely no testing of your car other than making sure its immaculate and everything fires up.
No way they want some numbty dinging it or messing it up by taking it around the block!
UK-C200 is spot on. I have done the factory tour also. They are **** about this being your machine from day one!
Not some nitwit at the dealership putting any miles on it!

As Vadim points out, not unusual.
When I took delivery I looked over the car, the tires were in like new shape, basically looked like it rolled off the factory floor. That was good enough for me. But regardless, they should honor request if it really matters to you that much.
I would say that 90% of the cars that I do PDI have around 10 miles on them when I'm done and I put around 3 of those miles on myself. It's not uncommon for a vehicle that sits on the lot for a while to aquire miles through test drives. But for a car that was just delivered I would expect that no more than 20 miles should be put on the car.
