So I got my White/Sahara C63...

on Saturday morning. 70 miles later the check engine light pops on and I just dropped it off at the stealership.

I did a search on this and it seems that a lot of people get this within the first couple hundred miles. I still pisses me off though. I just dropped $70k+ on this car, and I can't even get it to run for ONE day.

Will post pics when I get it back. Car looks and feels amazing. I don't have the PP, so don't ask.

Ok..this is kind of annoying. The service advisor is claiming that the car is sending them codes for a leak in the fuel tank. He said they pressurized the tank, and nothing is wrong. He said I just have to wait a couple days and the light will go off...

Oh well, I guess it's better than if they'd found a serious problem.

Ok, first off I would NEVER go to a dealer that says "just have to wait a couple days and the light will go off..."!! You fix the problem then you reset the CEL, PERIOD!!! I guess next he will tell you he can sprinkle some magic dust on the roof and the car will be fixed. What a retard.

Congrats on the purchase and sorry to hear about the CEL. Hopefully everything works out and no more issues pop up with the vehicle and the dealership/service dept. handles it properly.

I would at least try disconnecting the battery. That ususally resets the codes.

I was once told the same thing with my old C32 and it did not go away until they replaced the tank. This is not good - keep us up to date.

They did manage to turn off the light and reset everything.

Service guy said everything checked out fine. He believes that when the dealer initially filled up the car, they left the gas cap open or didn't screw it on tightly, so the air that got in there messed up the sensors in the tank.

Sounds like BS to me, but what can you do? At least the check engine light is off now and hopefully it'll stay that way.

Yep, not tightening the gas cap will set off a check engine light on most cars. Don't worry... it's a legit cause. I'm surprised they didn't check that right away. Dumbos!

Oh yeah -- CONGRATS on your car! Post some pics, that's a great color combo!

So I did not fill up the car with gas since I got it back from the dealer. A couple hours ago the check engine light came back on. I already called my Service guy and he said that he's going to start replacing parts now...since obviously it's not the air getting into the tank.

I'm pretty pissed off about this. How can they sell a car like this and get away with it. There's gotta be some way for me to complain to MBUSA.

Oh well...more tomorrow when I get the car back.

there isnt, same thing happened to me except it was my fuel sensor sending unit in my 08 ML320. I filed a complaint, asked to trade it in for a different one, talked to the regional manager and only got a free tank of gas and a haggard "detail"

you gotta be joking
guess what, new car probably has the same flaw

no matter what manufacturer, 1st year models have issues, they get updated, corrected, comes with the territory of buying first year models

demanding a new car would only apply when it's a lemon, fix the same thing for a number of times and being in the shop a certain number of total days, etc.

demand a new car hah good one

btw to OP, congrats, sahara interior is the classiest on the car for sure out of what they offer.

UPDATE:

Got the car back yesterday. They found the problem, which is a faulty "Purge Valve" in the exhaust system. Replaced that and now hopefully this will be the end of it.

I purchased an first-year model G35 in 2003 that shut down on the highway after I purchased it. Returned the car to the dealer and had them order me another one, without question.

They gave me a loaner g20 and apologized profusely until the new G35 came in.

Not sure why you think he has no choice in the matter, especially after spending 70k.

my09 is still first year model (april to what august?) (feb? in europe)

my08 was shortest production (time wise) i've seen in a long time
there's no way my08 issues got fixed so fast, some issues have not even surfaced yet, people still have very low miles

good to hear they took care of you fast and are back on the road though, drive safe
