ESP off and braking

I am confused by statements I have read that once the esp is turned off it comes back on when you apply the brakes??;

Prolonged pressure on the ESP key activates “ESP OFF”. There is no intervention to control the handling dynamics, and no reduction in engine torque – thus increasing driving enjoyment even further. “ESP OFF” should only be used by experienced drivers on dedicated racetracks. In this mode too, operating the brake pedal restores all the normal functions of ESP®, as described above.

How are you supposed to keep it off on a track when you brake for a corner?
Surely that can't be the case. If so, the "off" would be pretty worthless.

Yeah no kidding, all hell and fury breaks loose, this car shocks me how easy it is to do a smoke show.

The ESP is on in the background still but its not overly interventive.
You can over heat the brakes with the EPS off and then going out and having a hoot of fun on a tarmac

Thanks for the responses. I figured that it had to stay off or what would the point be. Can't wait to raise some hell--next week.

I think they mean the ESP turns back on if the braking system's anti-lock function is activated (the ABS can't be turned off except thru the dyno mode).

The one time I had a chance to smoke up a storm - turned it off, spun the wheels and no noise, drama or smoke... the surface was too smoth

I'll try harder next time.

What I heard is that when it is put in the off mode and you panic brake that ESP comes back on if required. It is always watching. Once the panic braking is over it goes back into hibernation. You do not need to switch it off again.

I was also told that as long as you are on the gas it will not get involved in the off mode.

No problems at all with mine off, I have never noticed it do anything.

That would make sense as on the track you will certainly get into the abs when pushing the car or when tracking in the rain. I wonder how "panic breaking" is detected? I will test it out soon enough.

Anywone take their car to a road course yet?

You don't. This is only for older models that can't turn the ESP off. Everyone who brings this up is generally uninformed about the C63.
