Downshift throttle blip. WOW!
So I'm getting close to 1000 miles for break in, and decided to push the C63 a little. I go into manual mode and, OK, nice, but when I downshifted, the exhaust bark was spine tingling. Totally unexpected. I had an E46 M3 and it wasn't anywhere near as cool sounding. Just thought I'd share.
edit: I had an M3 SMG with rev match downshift that didn't sound as cool as the C63. Damn.

The other day, I had my wife start the car from the passenger seat while I went to the trunk. I knew she was starting the car and I still jumped a little when I heard the exhaust. She got a kick out of it when I told her.
I used to think the SMG was the Holy Grail until the hydraulic pump failed on me and I found myself merging into 95S with no power. Geesh that was scary it would totally lose power for several seconds then just kick back in.

....
Do you mean that whenever you are in manual mode, the exhaust barks EVERY time you downshift with the paddles? regardless of whether you are on ESP/ESP sport/ESP off ?
The wait for this car is killing me...slowly.

On downshift, the throttle blips (like a heel-toe in a MT). So there is a nice exhaust "bark" from that. Then (even cooler I think), when downshifting a engine braking, the is usually a fair amount of backfire that sounds awesome.

Speaking of the start-up "bark" specifically (as opposed to the downshift bark), anyone notice that the bark sounds much more impressive cold then when the car is warmed up?
I'm wondering if it's just the cold pipes, or the ECU acts differently (fuel map, timing or something). Seems to be much more raspy sounding and mean first thing in the morning...kinda like my 'ol lady.

The engine is supplied more fuel when cold due to the engines reduced efficiency when cold.
There is a whole long explaination of why (open vs closed loop), but yes, it is richer when cold.

I wonder if AMG included the "blip" for the performance enhancement (keeping the car settled when downshifting through a hard turn) or just to give goosebumps.
The new 370Z (replacing 350Z) is the first car I'm aware of that has the "blip" feature with a manual transmission.

Same here! What do you have? After mercilessly beating my C32 at the track, I picked up a 1988 Porsche 944 no turbo :-( . It's a great learning tool for track use. I blew a downshift/blip in a fast sweeper and almost balled the car up into a tire wall. That's why I got a track beater!

nice!
Depends on what you mean by barks.

I reliogiously cruised here every waking minute, I also watched every possible Youtube video of this car made.....sanity, didnt have it, but when the car arrives, all the videos and all the posts still dont do it justice, there is no such thing of overhypping this car.

Oh my!
This all sounds very familiar....in fact this is exactly what I'm doing. My iphone has probably over 50 (actually over 80, I just counted) videos of the C63 and I surf this site EVERYDAY! I actually was getting worried that I'm focusing way too much on it that when it finally arrives, the exhaust will not sound as great as on some of the videos I've found and I will be too used to the design. Hence I have a picture of an ML63 on my desktop wallpaper just to distract the mind plus I downloaded vids of other cars just to hear different exhaust sounds to balance things out in my mind. Sanity..... or insanity........ you decide.
