Looking for a new toy.
Burning them off is probably the best thing you can do to the stock Pirellis. I found them, on the SLK55, to be a very poor tire. While decent in the wet, they sucked monkeyballs for dry traction, and treadwear (as you've discovered) is nothing to write home about. I found the improvement in traction to be nothing short of amazing when switching to Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R's. But there are also many other better choices out there than Pirelli's IMO.

Good to hear about the RE-01Rs.

I know most of you will not want to hear this but leaving the tranny in C mode for most of your driving will save you a fortune in rear tires over time. Launching the car from second gear relieves a considerable amount of friction where the rubber meets the road. Besides sport mode is always 1 click away.

I went 2000 miles on the P-zero's with noticeable tread wear. After 1000 miles on 19" Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's, no tread wear at all seemingly. I run "S" all the time.

What about road noise with all season tires? Any issues?
Why not the PS2's?

Drop Pirelli the rubber is very soft and wears quickly I had them on my 911 and Saab 900T and got terrible wear life switched to Michilins and had no complaints.

Well I drive like a grandma and only got 7,000 miles out of the back tires. They're as bald as a baby rat. I was p1ssed, now I guess I'm lucky?

Agree not a fan of p zero for tracation or wear. If they gave me super traction then i would not mind much but they do not compared to PS2 that i have tried or live as long

Are you guys getting new Pirelli rears one time since the fronts stay viable for a while or are you just chucking all four and getting new tires?

I'm tempted to just chuck all four.

Hey Jim, Merry Christmas!!

Didn't the SLK come with the Rosso tire rather than the new P-Zero?

I found the 2 to be completely different tires with the P-Zero outperforming the Rosso in every category. Besides the soft, quick wearing compound the only issue I have with the P-Zero is the amount of road noise vs something like the PS2.

I did run both the PS2's and new P-Zero's on my C55 with pretty much identical treat life.(10,000klm on the rears)

How many miles are you getting out of your rears tires?

10K Klm on the C55. I would bet about 15-20% less on the C63

Pirrelli are very soft, especially if you drive hard. I went Hankook on my BMW 650 and they were great, good quality and traction and last forever (and less expensive)

Merry Christmas as well Barry

The SLK55 had "PZero Rosso"'s yup. I've also sample "PZero Nero"'s on another car and was less than impressed with those as well. Not sure what this "new" PZero is? But I am sure I'll be taking them down to the cords and swapping 'em out tout de suite! On a related note, been reading a lot of great reviews on the new Dunlop Direzza "Star Spec" tire as well.

- Bill..Jim is my unloved evil step brother who's into Hunduh's.. I think

Same here. I've had mine for about 4 months now and they're going bald. I'm going back to cheaper tires that last longer.

The Direzzas looks really good on the Tirerack website review. The price is pretty damn good as well for four.

Yup, go with all four for sure...another failing of the Pirelli's - pricing!
