Saw a GT-R on PCH in Malibu tonight

And my god, was it beautiful. It was red with a full carbon fiber body kit, with a diffuser, side skirts and front lip but was littered with tuner company stickers on the rear passenger windows. In the past I was never much of a fan of the GT-Rs looks, but this one was absolutely beautiful!!

I was riding next to him at about 45 mph (speed limit) basically just gawking at his car, and decided that i wanted to see the performance that we've all heard so much about. So i was trying to egg him on, riding high rmps speeding up a bit, then slowing back down to his speed (pretty standard). After doing that twice I'm still staring at his car and out of no where he punches it, launches forward and slightly afterward i pursue. At around 60 he lets off and he had me by about 1/2- 3/4 of a car length and was pulling hard(i have the Kleeman ECU).

The thing that i did no anticipate was the beastly sound that car makes when accelerating, however this specific car might have been modified, considering the body kit and tuner company stickers (although isn't it badass enough????). Unfortunately after this little teaser he then dropped under the speed limit to about 40, and i didn't hang around because i dont even have the patience to drive the speed limit, much less under.

Maybe he didn't find it worth his while to race a C63, afraid of getting a speeding ticket, the car was in its break in period, or maybe he was just a b!tch...who knows

The GTR is a great car, if I could get one at a discount off of msrp, I'd probably be driving one.

having gone to school at pepperdine in malibu i learned never speed on pch. 55-60 or less and you are fine but over that you are going to get caught. There are at least 3-4 cars a nigh out there patrolling.

I got my only ticket of the last 12 years on pch by a cop who said I was involved in a street race yet my ticket said i was going 40 in a 45. He said my engine was reving high and therefore I was racing. Being that I was driving a 415 hp C32 at the time I dont think 40 in a 45 is worthy of a 23109(C) (exhibition of speed).

That could be why he was not speeding!

I did see Two GT-R's at the track Wednesday. Both spun off and ended up pulling rocks out of their tire beads at the track tire shop

Ha yeah man, born and raised in Malibu, those Sheriffs are notoriously *****s. Had that same thing happen to a buddy but he was in a 1980's BMW that struggled going up hills and the Sheriff dinged him for street racing.

GTR's have sick engines but the tranny wasn't made good enough to handle that engine power. What a dissapointment....

lies. There's plenty guys running 570 hp on motor and it is fine, there's also 1 car with 700 hp and doing fine so far.

Check your facts before you speak please.

can you tell me where did you get your Kleeman ECU upgrade in LA or did you have to send your ECU away?

Thanks

The GT-R definitely looks better in 3D than in person. Still don't know if I would buy.. maybe if I could get one on the cheap. Wonder what the depreciation is gonna look like in 12-18 months???

I didn't get to hear the exhaust when I saw it.

Saw a silver one last week in Woodland Hills, license plate read DPNDBLE - hahah

I have to admit I thought they were ugly at first, but I've gotten used to it now.

Also, keep in mind that not all hp is equal (when I was at RENNtech, we used to say that horses aren't all the same size). When you tune for crazy low-end torque AND use the launch control and/or a hyper-aggressive launch technique, you are going to strain the tranny. You can tune around that on any car and maintain driveability - that's just one way a real tuner separates him/herself from the hacks and part-changers.

He didn't race because he realized that a C63 can fit 4 people, luggage, AND run similar times with mild tuning as well, if not faster, whereas his only fits 2 people, costs $40K more, and has a worthless warranty that gets voided if you use Launch Control too much.

I know/seen that car many times, its got tons of cosmetic mods and is probably sponsored by 10 tuners

But its stock turbowise as of 3 weeks ago when I picked up my GT-R at Stuttgart Performance in Costa Mesa (got the calipers painted). It did have the Mines modified exhaust and downpipes plus maybe an ECU update.

Here is my GT-R

WHO WOULD BUY A CAR THAT TRANNY BLOWS WHEN YOU LAUNCH IT TOO MANY TIMES???

I DONT CARE HOW FAST IT IS... IT IS SUPPOSED TO BE MADE TO BE DRIVEN HARD

I wanted this car bad before I found this out, who would buy this after knowing this??

Exactly, nice car but dont race launch it, and if you do, make sure no one is behind you as shrouds of tranny are going to be torpedoed at an alarming speed.

Saw one tonight in Pasadena at a Marie Calender's. It was grey and looked very nice.

It looked much more muscular and had a significantly wider stance than my c63. I was drooling over it when my girlfriend said ya but it has a Nissan emblem on it. I LMAO and said ya your right. Got into my car and drove away.

if you've been in a GT-R that used the old launch control you would understand, it's brutal and I don't think any production car's transmission could repeataly hold down 500HP dumping to the ground via 4 wheels....

Nissan has since updated the launch control and you can launch all you want now and still go very fast.....

10.7 @ 132 MPH with some minor mods:
