Will the C63 get the MCT tranny??

Hello,
Im new to the board.
I sold my heavily modded e46 M3 about 6 months ago.

Im in the market for a new car, either a C63, e90 M3, or a slighly used 2008 RS4.
I have had several MBs in the past, and the last one was a S55, great car.

I was wondering if the C63 will be getting the new MCT tranny. I have driven a SL63, and a C63, and the new MCT tranny is def a step in the right direction.

Anyone got any info????
Thanks.

That would be great.
It is worth the wait till 2010 then. I was thinking of getting a 2009 model in early 2010 to save some $$$, but I would rather have the MCT tranny.
Thanks.

It's basically the same 7G with a wet clutch. 100 millisecond shift times (we can improve upon both part and WOT shifts still just like with BMW E60/63 and E90-92 SMG/DCTs) will be a better starting point. The 2010 E is supposed to get the MCT as well.

Yes, the MCT is something similer to DSG/PDK!! It has two clutches inside the tranny, and Mercedes says that even shift faster than the Ferrari F1 tranny in the F430!!!

Mercedes will likely start stuffing all their AMGs with the MCT tranny, but since it's a new technology, it may take them a couple of years to iron out all the bugs.

What bugs ? I haven't heard anything but great things about the new tranny. Have there been probs in the SL63 ?

If the 2010s have MCT and rear fender flares, I might have to sell my 2009!

i dont know if its me or if its the car, but i do feel a slight slip in the clutch when upshifting with about 2/3 throttle. when i pull on the upshift paddle, i can hear the engine rev ever so slightly higher before the lightning shift comes. but i havent driven the car much. only got 1000km on it. i still need to try it out more when i get back to hong kong. besides from that, its just a marvelous piece of engineering.

So far there hasn't been many bugs reported, but the technology is fairly new and is limited only to one model. At the track, the MCT would not let us perform a proper burn-out, and we were not able to utilize the launch control at lower rpm values. However, I still loved the way the tranny shifted and handled the power throughout the band. I await it's introduction into the W212 E63 anxiously

It does not have two clutches. It uses a wet clutch to replace the torque converter and this makes it a more direct connection without the automatic transmission slip. The basic backbone is still like that of the 7g so there are not two clutches and shafts.

It is a very good design and a design that MB chose due to packaging constraints and because it weights 60lbs or more less than a dual clutch set-up.

Wow....maybe I shouldn't keep bugging my wife to get a '09. I too would prefer the DSG type tranny. 2010s come out around Aug/Sept?

Not DSG. More like BMW's SMG. Still pretty exciting though

i had SMG II and i LOVED it...however, I hope they do not add MCT to the C63 as im getting mine in May, sorry guys...(insert devil face)

Does MB usually make such a big change to a car so early? Wouldnt they be sacrificing a lot of the testing and research they did on the C63's current tranny only to replace it in a year? It just doesnt make sense to me...like when BMW added the SMG it didnt happen until the second year, but they did release the info for people to be able to wait for it

The 6.2L N/A engine is used across platforms, and has been for a few years. Same goes for the tranny. The MCT transmission was first released in the flagship SL63, but it's extremely likely it'll trickle down into the "lower" 63 AMG's within a year or two.

When the W220 S55 came out, it had the normally aspirated V8, then not more than a year later, they came out with the Kompressor V8 S55, which devalued the NA S55 in a big way, so MB does make quick changes.
