Anyone do a Kleeman ECU tune?
Hey guys, now that the cat may be out of the bag with all this MHP stuff, I have been doing some research and found out that the Kleeman ECU tune gives about 40-45 WHP, not crank HP, so not bad, the best part is that it is in the neighbourhood of $1550 USD, pretty good bang for your buck, as well spoke to them and said there have not been any CEL issues...If anyone has done this ECU upgrade by Kleeman, I as well as many others would love to hear your opinion, hope someone chimes in!

This also used to be a pretty informative thread, but hasn't been updated. I think I've narrowed my search down to Kleeman and Renntech, based on recent findings. Plus Kleeman is relatively cheap compared to the others.

For the price of Kleeman(1495) you can add a pulley and still be cheaper than others.

MB of Buck Head just installed Kleeman headers and ECU on my car. I don't have it back yet, but here is a video/sound clip of it on the dyno:

Here is a video/sound clip of it making its way through traffic:

It sounds pretty good. The service manager at MB Buck Head said it's really fast. I should have it back on Monday. If you want to talk to the guy that handled the installation, call call the MB Buck Head, Kevin Ingold. His contact info is:
kingold@mercedesofbuckhead.com

He and Cory from Kleeman have been great to work with. They were very fair on pricing, but I will let you guys talk to them about it. If I got a really good deal, I don't want to paint them in a corner as to pricing. If I didn't get a really good deal, then you wouldn't want to rely on my pricing anyway!

I have talked to Kevin several times about the various tuners, especially Kleeman (but not bought anything - yet). He seems like a very stand-up guy. MB of Buckhead also installs VRP, Renntech, Lorinser and several others (and Escort 9500ci!), and says that Kleeman is great to work with, and always stands behind their product when the occasional issue crops up (and everyone - no matter how good - is going to have an issue now and then).
Like I said, I haven't bought anything from Kevin at the performance shop, but MB of Buckhead has been my dealer for several years and they are great (in fact, I just dropped my car off this morning for service).

(And kevin said Lew's car - with the headers and a tune - is a beast.)

I had my C63 ECU tuned by Kleeman a few months ago. Top notch professionalism and great people to work with. Can't say enough about their service and accessibility. Can't go wrong!

Call Cory at Kleeman. He should be able to recommend an MB dealer near you. He put me in touch with Kevin at MB of Buckhead. My local dealer was reluctant to install. Kevin said that if he installed it he would make sure that there were no warranty issues down the road. Otherwise, I probably would not have done it.

It was fairly inexpensive to ship my car there. (Less than $1200 round trip from the Northeast.) I probably saved that much just by the fact that MB Buckhead knew what they were doing and could do the installs quickly and efficiently (I also had them install an Escort 9500ci, phenolic intake spacers and window tints). They also saved me some $$ by advising me of what I did not need. That plus the confidence in the work and warranty piece of mind far outweighed the shipping cost. Turn around time was quick as well.
Thanks Kevin! (Thanks too to Cory at Kleeman!)

MB Buckhead is the largest dealer in North and South America for Kleeman products. I believe that they are the largest east coast dealer for Renntech. (I may be mis-recalling as to Renntech. Regardless, they do install a lot of Renntech products.)
I would think that for a road car, the header/ECU upgrades from any reputable tuner would provide similar levels of increased performance and fun. If I am 5-10 hp shy of another car, I'll never know. This car is my daily driver, so .25 second difference in a quarter mile is not important to me. However, finding a knowledgeable installer that could make sense of the various modification options out there, install them simply and quickly, stand behind their work, and provide assurance that my warranty would not be voided was PRICELESS!
It was a very positive experience. Thanks again to Kevin Ingold and all of the folks at MB Buckhead and Cory Umemoto of Kleeman.

Looking like Renntech for me. My local dealer is Pro Renntech and likes the products. If my local dealer is ok with using Renntech and will not void my warranty for using there products, it seems like a no brainier. Power upgrade with dealer cooperation.

I just had the kleeman ecu upgrade and headers insrtalled at mercedes benz of buckhead and the car is awesome. I haven't had the chance to try it on any unexpecting foe, but the difference is very noticeable and the sound is great. The guys at mbob really knew there stuff and helped me out.I would recommend the mods, its worth the money.

My Kleeman tuned car (ECU/Headers) arrived last night. The roads finally dried up this morning and I was able to nail it. It is really f***ing fast.

* turn-around time from Kleemann to your dealer who installed
* you're running the K2, correct?
* at what speeds do you most notice the increase in power?
* how are the shifts?
* If the K2, how is the sound compared to the stock (I saw the vids, but looking for more of your commentary)
Much appreciated.

Here you go. Answers immediately below questions in the quoted block:
Lew--thanks for sharing. Not that "really f***ing fast" says it all
but hoping you can provide any other details such as:
* turn-around time from Kleemann to your dealer who installed
3 days.
* you're running the K2, correct?
yes
* at what speeds do you most notice the increase in power?
All over. Very very responsive. 35-100 mph is really pretty amazing.
* how are the shifts?
Quick. I really don't remember how it shifted prior to the tune. But they are very quick now.
* If the K2, how is the sound compared to the stock (I saw the vids, but looking for more of your commentary)
At cruising speeds it is the same as stock. When you step on it it is a little louder and deeper than stock. Not as loud as my 427 Cobra with side pipes - thank god - but still very ballsy. It does NOT sound like a ricer with big cans or a Mustang. It has a good deep sound that does not beat you up.
For the money, it is hard to beat. Reach out to Kleeman or MB Buckhead and find out what it really costs (they had a special on the headers in January). Go with someone who has done it before. It was a very good bang for the buck.
Much appreciated.
De nada.
