Tires: Anyone tried TOYO Proxes T1R's?

Still shopping for new tires and was looking at Toyo's as a potential new purchase.... anyone with any experience driving with any style of TOYO's and in particular the R888's or Proxes?

Great tires..you can use the TIR's all year..where the R888's..should be taken off in the colder climates..and can crack..Toyo's or Invo's are winners.

I hear they don't grip too well in dry or wet, they at best mediocre tires. I would suggest stickier tires such as the new Kumho XS or the new Nitto NT-05. Nitto NT-05 have proven to be better than Dunlop Star Spec but with a lower price tag, however, people say that the Star Spec tires has a better feel to it. Good luck

I run the T1Rs on my Audi and they are an excellent tire. I find these tires have excellent grip in the dry. Search this site, in particular the E55 forum, they all say good things about the T1Rs as well. I've found grip in the rain to be perfectly fine as well.

I can say with certainty though they suck in the snow, especially with the steep hills here in Seattle. Although that is probably obvious being a summer performance tire.

The Nitto's are also on my list but I ran across the Toyo's recently and also in a recent thread here... the T1R's are very reasonably priced as well.

Nitto's are cheaper than the Toyo's for sure.

Til recently I was running the R888's. Great tires. hook up really well. Just beware they are a 3 season tire. Since they are 'R' compound once the temps get close to freezing they dont grip for crap.

I plan to get another set this spring for summer use.

I ran the T1R's on my C55 and was very happy with them. They had good overall performance. Not on par with my favorite PS2's. Since I am not tracking the car, I am not too concerned about lap times.

I will probably go to them or PS2's at about 8-10k miles when my 2nd set of Pirelli rears wear out.

I have found the T1r to be superior to any tire at a similar pricepoint.

You can't argue with a 1.69 60-foot

Currently running with T1Rs. Excellent grip on dry and wet. Very quiet. Rounded sidewalls. A set of 19" will run you around $1K

Thanks for the replies guys... I am going to try the TR1's. I had the Kumho's on my 350Z and they were VERY noisy even noisier than the BFG T/A KDW's...
I got quoted $824 (plus tax etc) for the 4 with 235/40 18's for the front and 275/35 18's for the rear

Like Azn said the T1Rs are a quiet tire, even as the tread wears down. Only reason I didn't put them on my C63 is because I wanted to try other brands.

a quarter mile at a time
I don't like the set on my car. I somehow got 2 sets of tires that were out of round. This was verified by 2 independant shops and the dealership (which isn't where i bought them from). They still shake. I still thought it wasn't possible until someone else with an W211 E55 said he had the exact same experience. I can't wait for them to wear out and have them replaced. Thier customer service is horrendous as well.

The T1R is a S-Tread tire which has an obscene amount of wet testing involved with the production of this tire almost 4 years ago. I strongly recommend this tire. I used it on my previous track cars which were a CTSV and Z06. I mainly used that tire off the track but it has a great life and looks amazing. If you really want to go fast, put the R888 on the rear and the T1R up front, just to be safe in WET/COLD conditions. Either way, Toyo is my top choice usually....

Good luck choosing!

I just realized your in DFW. If you would like to get some seat action in a C63 with the R888's, just let me know! My buddy can also give you owner feedback as well.

Have a good day!

Was that price online or local? I have been thinking about the T1R's too.

The T1Rs are great tires. They are also good for lowered cars since the sidewall is rounded (reducing possible rubbing issues).

Went to Kauffman's this morning and went ahead and ordered the Toyo T1R's, I flipped flop back and forth with the Michelin PS2's but took a chance and went with the Toyo's at ~$425 total less cost. Got the 4 Toyo's for just under $900 (tax and install incl.) Went with 235/40 and 275/35 18's.
If these don't work then what the heck I'll just change all 4 to Michelin's next time or even maybe Nitto's...
Tires will be installed on Monday... will have fun finsihing off the PZERO's tomorrow...

I think you will find the Toyos to be a good choice.

Let us know how the sizes you selected fit. I need a set very soon.

i had them on my M3 way back wen and I remember them as a solid tire (after my bridgestone sidewalls cracked)

if i remember correctly, they were substantially cheaper than other tires in the same category - close to 25% cheaper

i wont be tracking the car so Ill be getting the T1-R's on my 360 forged 19's
