What would be your "toy" car?

Hi all. As a toy car (driving only weekends and non-winter months), today I decided upon a 2006 Carrera 2S Cabriolet. It's mint, with 2,300 miles, manual, and aftermarket exhaust.

My 2009 C63 is my DD. My wife has an ML350 (2009). So, the 911 is purely for fun (when I want something that's not 4-doors & a roof). It's not something I'll track.

Can anyone share their toughts on this combo--particularly anyone who has owned a 2006 or above 911 with a similar car mix?

Also, I'd like to hear from others what "toy" cars they have (unless the C63 is in fact your "toy")

Porsche's are a good choice, however, check signature.

Check page 54 in the April issue of the Dupont Registry.

AMG GT-R
I have been tossing several cars around in my head, but will probably wait another year or two before taking a serious look. I really like the 997 GT3, and the 997.2 GT3 looks even more promising, however I don't like some of the new visual changes. I also like the Gallardo Superleggera, and with the way prices have been dropping on Lambos, the price won't be too far off a new GT3 I suspect. I'll be curious to see what the LP-560 prices will be at a year from now as well. And of course, the F430 is in consideration as well. I just love the sound of the flatplane crank!

I won't go for a vert next time around however. When I had the Boxster, I drove with the top up most of the time with the weather up here, and on long cruises my scalp would feel numb from the wind buffeting off the top of my head. Probably should have worn a cap

Congrats on the C2S though, I really prefer the 997 over the 996. It should be a good compliment to the C63. Well, a Porsche would be a good addition to any garage.

Right now the C63 is my only car, but if I went for a "toy" car (which I very well might in the near future), nothing could possibly beat the Ariel Atom. Completely impractical, completely insane, but it's the best toy car there is.

I agree on the Atom - I think it is a real "toy".
There is also KTM X-Bow it is also a cool "toy".

2 Taylorcoleman Why not a Turbo 911? It will definitely give you something to "play" with. The turbo boost will be a good alternative for the daily driven NA Merc engine. IMHO

I considerered the Turbo 911. Since my Kleemann C63 is nearly as fast as the TT, I was not looking to spend the extra $$, as the sport car, convertible, and manual were my primary endpoints.

Plus, I found truly mint 2006 (997 version) with ~2,200 miles with 1 owner, in an S version. With an ECU tune, and with the existing aftermarket exhaust, it's a fast car.

But the cache of the turbo is hard to pass up. Believe me.

Interestingly enough, I drove a 2003 Ferrari 430 convertible w/ 5,000 miles and the most recent service completed. It was quite a bit more than the 997, but I was willing to pull the trigger on that. Suprisingly to me, the Ferrari just did not feel as good as the 997.

What I like!
Between my spouse and I we have a 997 GT3, the C63, a Lotus Elise, two Honda S2000's (one street, one track) a Boxster S and a Mitsu Evo 8. Plus a Radical SR3 (not street legal, track-toy)

This is what happens when two car enthusiasts get married and don't have kids.

My toy is my 1987 420SEL. Mint condition. Always garaged and I never drove it in the winter. It is washed weakly and has only 113,000 miles.

Two wheels here...'93 HD Heritage Softail "MooGlide". I had a '97 Dodge Viper GTS in the past, which was lots of fun.

Although another 2 wheel rocket would be nice, I've been thinking about a '09 Boxster w/ PDK or a used SLK55. The Boxster lease at $599/mo for 36mo is hard to pass up. But for a little more I could own a '06 SLK55. Probably won't do it until we move though...

Dude...I'm digging your cars, but get rid of the red-headed-step-child Boxster

Boxter = IMHO. I'd take the SLK55 any day.
