New AMG website is up

The new AMG website just recently went live.

Not sure if everybody's seen it, but here is the link: http://www.mercedes-amg.com/#/home

I actually like it.

It's pleasing to the eye, easy interface, and simple.

Not bad.

The one thing I find a bit sad about AMG's now is that they're really no longer an "exclusive" brand anymore, but more a trim level. (Albeit it, it's the the highest trim level available.)

The new website indirectly suggests this, by marketing them in that direction.

Surely the wholly different engine sitting under the hood makes the AMGs more than just another trim level?

Interestingly, they've put the CLS under the category of "Coupes". A '4-door coupe' is how they've been marketing it, but I would have thought the car is undoubtedly more a sedan than it is a coupe, in the generally-accepted concept of what those terms mean.

yes, its always been labeled as a coupe, albeit with 4 doors.
its does have a bit of an identity crisis though. its got 4 doors like a sedan but the low slung roof-line and only 4 seats like a coupe. the good thing is that its not inconvenient getting people in and out of the backs seats.

They certainly gave it a lot more content than in the previous version.

Question E63 and CLK63?

How come there is no E63 on the site?
Does it only display MY2010?
Or is it because of the the new E-class body (sedan and coupe)?

Isn't the E in the process of being replaced with a newer model?

Good catch. They've clearly put the European specs on this website.

I wonder if they could make it slower?

I've tried it from 2 locations and it's like trying to view an HD video on dial up!

Way better than the previous one, that had no good info on it. They need more pictures in the gallery though.

LOL

Good things come to those who wait, I guess.

Yeah, it's as though they only make AMGs in black, silver, or white. Wait a minute...

Sure the engine is awesome, no questioning that.

But unless you're an enthusiast like we are, most people don't even care.

I know plenty of people who go to MB dealerships and simply ask

"What's the best one in the model line? I'll get whatever the best one is."

.......with no knowledge or care of what they're actually buying.

To them, that awesome V8 sitting in the hood is just an engine. The dealer could swap the engine out for a C300 V6 and they probably won't even notice. What they care more is that they bought "the most expensive one".

My argument is that AMG should have done what they used to, produce in limited numbers, and market their cars for enthusiasts only. Back in the day, getting a 500 or 600 was getting "the best one", because that's all people knew.

Very valid points indeed. I still remember reading about the AMG Hammer when it first came out. It was quite the event. But like every other business though, the bottom line is what counts most, and for AMG it's certainly no different. Let's hope they can continue to strike a reasonable balance between exclusivity and commercial success.

Definitely agreed.

But it's still quite sad really, when I see soccer mom's driving C63's, M3's, and RS4's.
(Whom I blame for buying cars just because it's the "most expensive" one, instead of buying cars based on what it can do/utility.)

Most likely they will:

1.) Not take care of the car, (maintenance wise and taking care of the body/interior) since it'll be more a point A to point B tool.
2.) Not ever use the car to its potential.

I always grew up with a weird idea that there are some cars with soul, and personality, while most truly are just soul-less appliances on wheels. Almost like having a dog, the car you really love becomes part of one's family. You learn to drive it a certain way, understand the maintenance that goes into it, know how to keep it clean, park it away from everyone else, worry about it being messed with, and get pissed if your wife treats it like a frying pan, and says "It's just a tool, lighten up!".

But I digress! New site is awesome!

They might as well provide a link to the AMG Lounge directly on that site, so that members can login without going to another page.
