Music Register - COMAND

Hey guys! I was wondering if there is any way in the COMAND where I could transfer music stored in the music register to other folders inside the music register as well.

i.e. transfer a song from the folder "Jazz" to the folder "Blues"...

is there any way to do that or when you transfer a song to the register, it cannot be moved from the original folder?

Thanks!

Kinda here too... Does anyone know if songs have to be saved as MP3 or WAV files when they are transferred onto the Music Register harddrive? I believe they have to be WAV files but not 100% sure.

No need. You can save MP3 files too. But you cannot save a single file. You have to transfer the entire folder or CD (if there aren't folders). I'll write a mini-diy when I get home to you guys.

I just found out last week that if you transfer MP3's the song/artist info will NOT be displayed. It's more time consuming but I started making audio CD's so the info will be displayed. Even though I begin to subliminally memorize the song order of the folders I filled with MP3's.

You can select the tracks you want to transfer you don't have to do the entire CD. I haven't transferred between folders yet.

How to register music:

load a CD. It can be a MP3 CD. If possible, divide the song genres/albuns or whatever into folders inside the MP3 CD when burning. Those divisions will be the divisions in the music register.

go to the "muisc register" in the COMAND menu.

on the bottom left corner of the screen (if i recall) there's a "music register" menu. There you'll find an option to "copy music files". Choose that.

COMAND will open a screen where you can choose the music folders that you want to copy to the register. It is only possible - as far as I know - to copy entire folders. Check the folders you want to copy and then choose "continue".

There. It will begin to copy. DO NOT turn off the car or the COMAND or it will interrupt the copy process.

You can change the song names and folder names and delete individual songs. But, as far as I know, you cannot move a song from one folder to another once in the register. You cannot add more songs to an already created folder too. You can create sub-folders, at most. (like: ROOT/ROCK/AUDIOSLAVE and ROOT/ROCK/ACDC).

That's it... i guess.

thanks. that is very helpful. i thought the only way to copy songs was to go from the music CD and then copy to the music register.

when you copy mp3s to the music register does it read mp3 tags? or is the only way to read mp3 tags through the memory card slot?

weird... I'll check that out tonight and get back to you guys. My C63 is euro-spec, but I guess the COMAND software is almost the same. No?

ahhhhhh, that might be the catch. there might be a software difference because of Euro-spec and US-spec.

I reside in the US and I dont get the "copy music files" option when I insert a MP3 CD to copy to HDD.

The meet I was referring to are the ones we regularly hold in Vancouver, BC. There's a thread on this forum with over 2,000 postings that are all related to the car meets we hold. If you don't see anyone on MBWorld hosting meets in the Austin area, perhaps you can check out the meets they hold over on the Cars and Coffee website.

As for storing the music onto the Music Register (hard drive), it's so simple I'm surprised you guys are having problems with it.

1. Insert music CD
2. CD will start playing automatically
3. Hit the "Rec" button on the screen using the COMAND knob
4. Choose the tracks you wish to record ("All tracks" is chosen by default)
5. Hit "Continue"
6. Hit "Destination Folder" button
7. Choose an existing folder or create a new one (name it)
8. Hit "Start"

Voila! That's all there is to it!

thanks for the info. the steps you've listed work fine if its a music CD i.e. CDA format. it doesnt work if I insert a MP3 CD since the "rec" option doesn't show up. it may be related to a music copyright restriction here in the US.

That's odd. I've burned numerous CDs in MP3 format and I have had no problems saving those songs onto the Music Register.

will have to try it out again. when i insert a CD, i could burn it to the HDD but it took quite a while. the issue is when i insert a MP3 CD, it doesnt give me option to "rec" or "copy music". would really appreciate if you can post a couple of screenshots when you burn a MP3 CD to HDD next time around. thanks a lot for all your help.

I wasn't able to do the MP3 CD either... I had to burn an audio CD from iTunes and then it worked so I think the audio CD are .wav files.

What is even interesting is that my wife's 2009 SLK does MP3s and does not do audio CDs.
