ESP Off in torrential downpour=big mistake
I made this mistake yesterday, "just to see" what would happen. Spun out making a left turn (protected left arrow luckily), jumped the front tires onto a median (rearranging the grass a little just for good measure), and scraped the doodoo out of the underside of the passenger side bumper. Spent 15 mintues digging mud and grass out from both front brakes and suspension when I got home. Everything seems to be working OK, but I probably need to get the wheels aligned. You can't really see the scrapes unless you squat down and from a few feet away it sort of looks like mud, so I may just leave it
or get a CF lip ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Learned my lesson the hard way I guess.

Sorry to hear about the mishap. I'm sure others will benefit from your experience.
I've found that the ESP-Sport mode already makes for pretty slippery driving when it rains. Can't really imagine what it'd be like in ESP-Off.
Hope you get your car fixed soon.

This thread topic is going to attract a bunch of people from other subforums with personality disorders.
Sorry about your car though. I have tremendous respect for this car in the rain with ESP on.

Ok, maybe not torrential, but it was raining pretty hard. The sensation during the spin was like falling only sideways - no input of any kind was helping once I lost control with too much throttle and too much wheel turn. Rotated 225 degrees from beginning of left turn until I stopped almost facing oncoming traffic with front wheels buried in a pile of freshly upturned earth. I had protected arrow luckily so I'm sure the guys at the light got a great show. Have to play it low key today so can't get pictures right now - the wife is not too thrilled about the whole thing. But hey, I'm still breathing right? (And I was NOT street racing!) Like I said, not much to see, but I'll get some pics when I can.

Yeah been there done that. A few people told me that Mercedes doesn't disable the ESP *completely* off when deactivated. Well, I ended up on a median in the rain bending a few suspension components, scratching my bumper and breaking my wheel. About 6k CAD in damage. Seemed completely off for me!!
Luckily because I haven't had an accident in 10 years I was able to get a freebie.

Drove by the spot it happened, and it looks like I was on course to drift through an almost perfect circle, and if it weren't for the medians/curbs I would have wound up in the same spot I had been waiting to turn left from. lol

C63 09' LSD traded for 2010 GT-R
This thread should be linked into the tire thread...perhaps our prematurely bald rear tires had something to do with spinning out in the rain!

PS. it might be a good time to take the car to a track where you can get a good feeling for the limits and spin/slide without hitting anything....

I have been there too, but I really to recommend to all who own these cars to take them to a clear lot and test out breaking in wet conditions while steering. This way you know how it will handle in real world conditions. I always test my cars in lots, rain, snow or just a nice clear day. It is good to know your car like it is an extention of you.
Sorry about your car bro! But sounds like go got lucky.
