What will the next C-class AMG engine be?

I know there are rumors but given the accelerated CAFE-CO2 laws I'm guessing a forced induction V6. I've seen the rumors of a V8 4.6 liter for one of the new AMG engines but I'm wondering if the new laws will completely change the game.

Would you guys buy a V6 version if that is the case?

I think weight reduction is the key but god help them with the crash safety regs in doing this.

Id rather have the 6.2 liter BEAST... the idea of the V6 TT sounds great, BUT these 6.2 liters are going to be some of the last types of these engines. A classic!...one day...

I agree. I may buy my car at lease end. I'm a little sad about the kind of cars available in a few years. All arguments over the issue aside.

A V8 is a V8. That said I have no doubt that a powerful Twin turbo V6 can also be tons of fun!! I recently got a chance to drive a BMW 335i coupe for a bit and it was a lot of fun! I would peg it in-between the C350 and C63 AMG. MB doesn't really have a direct competitor for it. C350 is much slower and C63 is much faster.

However, one of the main reasons I like the C63 so much, aside from the power, handling, and style, is the SOUND coming from the quad-exhausts and to an extent, engine also. You can't duplicate this sound with a V6 no matter how you much you tune the exhaust. Heck even the V12s don't sound as nice as a V8. This will be the main loss on going to the V6's again. Yes, V6s can sound real sweet but every time you hear the C63 V8, reality returns.

Though it's good to hear other engine sounds every so often, to keep things in perspective, otherwise you sort of take the V8 sound (and the performance) for granted. When I drive other cars for a while, coming back into this monster is extremely thrilling!

By the way, does anybody else find other car suspensions too floaty after driving the C63 for a long time?

Stop-start technology would dramatically improve the fuel consumption for those of us with city driving! That said I don't want a V12, you loose the amazing sound! I would like them to keep the V8 and just add the stop-start tech to further improve fuel consumption.

Speaking of which they might use the new 5.5 V8 with turbos on the successor!

Why no go with a V6-Triple Turbo? A small turbo for minimal turbo lag and 2 larger ones for massive top end? you could have a gear & rpm sensitive butterfly valve to direct the exhaust to the two sets of turbos.

Or lightweight small displacement V8 with turbos, ala Ferrari F40?

I love my big gas guzzling V8, nothing sounds like it, the V6 in whatever version will not make my hair stand like this does, if they do switch, then I would look elsewhere one day.

I was thinking of the same thing. Might be a desirable vehicle like the 190 16v or 500E. Sitting behind SebringSilver's car while he revs it is pure sex (of course not thinkng of David or his behind) .

I had three 190E 16V in my life and what fun cars they are. They have now gone up in value as well.AMG did a evolution 1 and 2 and if you ever heard a AMG DTM 190E 16v it will make your hair stand up and give you goose pimples.

i agree with Sebring

Its about the V12

But seriously nothing can replace a c63 with 2 turbos not even 4 turbos

its about the Great V8 sound it produces

Absolutely! The sound is half of it. You don't just get to blow by everyone, you get to make a scene of it.
(ps after driving the C63 all other cars seem slow!)

+3 to you guys. The end of the current muscle-car era. This car is a keeper. I don't know what the next C63 will bring... but if it's not a V8, I'm not interested either. Even if the new car is a TT-6 with 500+ HP at 50mpg, ten+ years from now the V8 will still have the same charm that seduced me in the first place. Sound, torque, hand-built, well-engineered and an element of simplicity. A keeper!

that makes two of us....

I agree, Hans is right. I especially like his comment: "The sound is half of it. You don't just get to blow by everyone, you get to make a scene of it." How true!!

I don't know what I'll do when I eventually....sell it. Can't even get myself to type the word sell, let alone say it.

You're not alone 1st AMG, you're not alone.
