Thoughts on Toyo T1-Rs

So, as some of you know, I've been running T1-Rs on the dragon for a few months now. I haven't had a chance to take it to the track in that time, but I've done plenty of hard driving nonetheless. At least that's what the officer said... lol.

Anyway, I'm impressed with these tires. They offer great grip, are really predictable at the limit and are relatively inexpensive.

They're not quiet, though. Well, that's not totally true. They're really quiet on the highway even at irrational speeds (I can only vouch for them up to, say, 185mph or so), but they're not quiet during hard cornering. The interesting thing is there's a definite change in the sound when they start to break away, and that threshold is pretty wide. Which I like a lot.

As far as straight line traction, they absolutely rule the Pirelli P-Zeros. I've done a lot of motor work to the car, and these things still bite and hook up better than the stock Pirellis do on the stock motor. To be fair, I'm running 285 width tires in back versus the stock 255s, but the motor's got way more than 15% more power to make up for the width difference. They still break away at the top of first gear under hard acceleration, but that's half the fun of this car, so I won't hold that against them. Also, they give a nice chirp from 2nd-3rd.

And they're relatively light, too. I forget the numbers exactly, but my 255/35-19f and 285/30-19r are lighter than the stock 18s. And reducing the rolling mass definitely makes the car feel quicker and lighter and improves the ride and handling.

Well, that about sums it up.

Josh

I have used the T1 series since the T1-S and my Brabus C32 Team Toyo Sponsored car.
The T1-R's are good tires I had them on my M3 but I like the Falken FZ4's better.Maybe because Falken is hooking me up now, but so far they corner better, they have more tread in the rear and I have laid some sweet recent b-outs about a block long. Now, they are quiet still after a few months, I do not know how long that will last. When the T1-R gets worn, they get LOUD..and it reminds you to change them.
I would say for the money the T1-R is great for a sedan.
A good mix of Lux and Performance and not too much cash.

I like reading reviews like this.

When your rears die, try out the RA-1's or R888s...You will like those!!!

on the T1R's
I have had them on the car for a few months and no complaints here.
I actually find them amazingly quiet considering the tread pattern differences to the Pirellis.
Agree with hard cornering noise, but isn't it great to hear how hard the car the tires need to work to control this car LOL

T1-s was a great tire but the T1-r not so great. Like someone else has indicated that once they are worn they are really really loud. Also they don't grip like the t1-s use to. A better tire is the Goddyear F1's and they cost the same. I have had both the T1-s and T1-r and the T1-S was way superior even though the sidewall was a little softer but the rubber was a lot stickier and quieter.

Im deciding between these, the RE760's, and the Vred's for my rears.

When you guys say they are loud when they are worn - do you mean end of life or do you mean like a few thousand miles in? How many miles are you T1R guys getting on your C63s?

Not C63, but at 15k miles they still had plenty of tread left (I'd say half). Never tracked on them, but did take them through hard twisties in the mountains several times. No noticeable sound change yet.

i use r888's, at 100km/h they are noisy. i have done around 8000kms in them so far and have a fair bit of grip left, ive been to the track twice with them (1/4) and twice circuit. Only issue, dont drive with them in the wet.

FWIW, I have the Bridgestone Potenza Sport RE760's on the rear...great tires (excellent grip in dry and wet) which I thought might last ~ 10k mi...well, not quite. I've got almost 7k on my rear RE760's and they might have another 500-1,000mi. left. So, I'm back to the drawing board in my search for decent high performance tires (which have great grip in dry and wet) which can last 10k+ miles on my C63 AMG and aren't a fortune to buy.

What about the Hankook Ventus V12's...anone have these and how long did they last on the rear of the C63 AMG?

Otherwise, I may try another set of RE760's or just go back to the Falken FK452's.

Ive heard nothing but good things about the RE760's (incl from you) but am curious about the Vreds and Toyos.

My concern with the Vreds is that they are just another internet sensation that everyone spreads around because everyone else is buying them.

My concern with the Toyo's is noise.

Interested in hearing facts and experiences on either.

I had Vredestein ultrac sessanta tyres on my SRT8 Charger, and they were Great tires, very sticky in dry or wet conditions, I was running 275/40/20 on all four. Best tire i ever had. Not sure if they have the sizes for the C63

I ran through two sets of the T1R. They were quiet and performed well during the first half of their life. Once they past that point, the noise was starting to get to me, especially if you sat in the rear. I'm trying out the RE050 currently and they are much more quiet. I will try the RE760 once I'm through with my current set.

I just bit on the T1-R's, couldnt pass them up at $173 a pop....we'll see about the noise. hopefully it isnt too bad - the BFG KDW T/A's on my C55 were deafening when they were dying.

After these are done I'll likely give the Vred's or RE760's a shot.

Totally agree had the T1-s and the T1-R and now the Goodyears and the F1 are a bit better than the T1-S and the T1-R don't even come close to the T1-S or the T1-R in grip. I think it could be due to the stiffer sidewalls on the T1-R but didn't change the compound enough to make up for the stiffer walls.

Sorry, $175 not $173.

onlinetires.com has them, I got my local discount tire to match the price.

Also got a 30,000 mile wear warranty for $29 more a tire which will give me a prorated credit for anything under 30k. IE if they last 10k I'll get ~$110 or whatever towards new tires, which can also be pricematched to the net. Got this in writing.

rieger - not sure what youre saying in your post.
