I'll save you the sob story.
How much should this cost to fix? I got a dealer estimate just for kicks and was quoted $1558-2100.
^ only look at the 2 largest things (diffuser and up and a little to the left), the rest are just the way the sun is reflecting.

Drawde what happened? Do you park your car on the street where you live? Did you get that in the parking lot in Weehawken?

Most body shops will charge a grip for even small things like that if you have to repaint something. They always quote much more for luxury cars.
I wouldn't get that repainted though. Don't know when it would happen again and then another 1-2k out the pocket. I've learned to leave those little blemishes alone. Touch up and polish is the way to go.
But touch up paint is harder to use than most people think. Sometimes it leaves globs of paint thats difficult to smooth out with the brush that comes with the paint. I think some people recommend using a tooth pick and paint really little by little.

nt. Most good detailers will even apply the paint for you if you ask.(bring coffee and eats) At least here in Toronto...
Tooth pick is a great suggestion for fine work.

Love this stuff. It works. It isn't rocket science. If you don't like the results just use more blob remover and start over. It does NOT both the surrounding clearcoat.

Bodyshops use estimating systems which have predeturmined labor times for r/i(remove/install), paint, materials, etc. The only true variable is the amount of labor time; which varies and is manually entered, to repair the bumper cover. The only reason "luxury cars" like the C-Class cost more to repair is because M-B decided to make almost every part that you have to take off; in order to do a proper repair, one time use................which means you're buying new parts/pieces on top of the repair and refinish work.

I just had my back bumper re-sprayed after a douche in a Denali bumped into my car....
$300 and i got the car back the next day
Dealers usually sub-out their cars to body shops....find out which body shop they use and go direct to them and get a quote....
there's no way it would be more than $400

I think you can touch up the light part but it wont ever match well and it will look gloppy and you wont like that either.

That's exactly how it was priced for my heavy scratch/light dent. I stopped in today just to see how they do it. Small pieces off, partly masked, bumper loosened, tech polishing the paint wide over two panels, just like the estimte said.
The painting was the cheapest part. The greater cost came from the .1-.2 hour times for removal and replacement of about a dozen small pieces. I chose the shop because I thought the damage was slightly more than what a dent doctor could do. It would have needed a touch of smooth paint, too. If you can do precise work like that, great.
Maybe you want to ask around locally for dent doctor. I don't think the shop price is off if the estimate shows you all the nickels and dimes. For me, the labor was cheap for around here.

For the deeper gouges just take your time. Slow and easy. Just fill in a small amount at a time and let dry. Build up your layers til level. Then off to the detail shop for a polish and wax.

That's crazy pricing. Ask the dealer if he enjoys gouging people.
A few weeks ago a guy on a Harley was splitting lanes and 'fell into' my car while I was stopped at a red light But he was cool and his insurance paid the whole thing.
Here's a pic of the damage:
The total fix (paint and new mirror glass, etc..) was $1500 and the 12-day car rental (a new MB E350 from Enterprise) was $1400
And I had it done at Avio Piombetti's shop: http://ww.aviocoachcraft.com/
The best in LA, imho. They did a perfect job.
Here's a pic from a few months ago of my Porsche getting some cosmetics done at Avio's (Euro corners and bumperette and plate hole delete.) Avio is the guy standing over the back of the RR Phantom Coupe.
