You should really go see them in person, pictures won't do it justice. Especially the 040 black....In fact, depending on the photo quality, you may not notice a difference, but you sure will notice in person.

If I had my choice, I would have went with the regular Black.
However, the only C63 my dealer had was Obsidian Black and I took it.
No regrets with the color, but it's just not "as black" as the regular black.
Although the paint is metallic, the flecks in it only contribute to making the car look dusty.
That being said, it's a personal decision.
Let us know what you decide!

I had a metallic black 2006 STi and agree 100%, the metallic flecks make it look hazy. Go for the deep 040 black...

Obsidian black is OK... i don't see the point of it. 040 black is much richer looking.

My new black (040) '09 MB C63 AMG

Originally, I wanted the Obsidian Black, since I had a flat black car before and hated all the swirl marks and how dirty it got. But, after getting my Black (040) MB C63, I think it looks better than the Obsidian Black...until it gets dirty and/or the swirl marks get bad anyway. My pics (from today) below...

I order mine obsidian and I have the same question that you have right now. I choose it because the pearl of the obsidian is really nice and shine. Anyway both are greats and both needs atention.

In the sun, a clean obsidian black car is stunning -- it will look very rich black in some areas, black with shiny flecks in others, and a dark metallic grey in others. If it isn't kept clean, it will look dirtier (like it has a light covering of ash) than the regular black.

On sunny days when my Obsidian Black car is clean, I get compliments all the time. When the car is dirty or it is overcast, I don't hear anything.

I will say that the paint on my MY04 does not seem to be as durable as other colors (particularly my wife's Brilliant Silver wagon) but I heard that they reformulated the paint in MY05 to correct this (don't know if this is true).

I would take Black over Obsidian.

Come to think of it, I already did!
