Thinking of switching to C63 from E63

Hi guys,
I have 6 more months remaining on the E lease, and with MB willing to take care of the last 5 payments and the great deals offered right now, I am debating what to do. My options are:

1. 2009 C63 with pp and the other good stuff
2. 2010 C63 with pp, 19' wheels (I think they come with 19...?) and keyless go (love that feature on my E). If I lease, the terms may be better than the 09, although the price will be higher.
3. Has anyone here considered a GT-R as a daily driver? My commute to work is minimal (2-3 miles), and I drive about 8K per year. Drove one yesterday and it is an astounding vehicle.

Thanks for any input!

i was choosing between the C63 and the GTR. i know they arent really competitors but .... those were the two cars i liked. the GTR would be fine IMO if you are only driving that far. i wish i had the money to let a 70k vehicle just sit outside all day however. i dont even daily drive my C63. but the GTR is fabulous. basically i guess it depends on how much you want to pay because a C will be loads cheaper than a GTR. thats what it came down to with me along with the fact that my C63 might have to pull couples duty to dinner. the GTR could not do that very well IMO.

oh and instead of a lease (unless you write it off as a business expense) you should consider the payment saver loan at penfed credit union. much better option IMO.

let us know what you go with.

Thanks for the response eagle. What is a payment saver loan? The Nissan Isn't much more to lease, as far as I know. It all boils down to the money factor and the residual. My E63 was 94K and my lease is cheaper than the lease offered to me on the heavily discounted C63!

GTR is a much tighter and a pure sports car while C63 is a very comfy sedan. I do daily my car so out of the two i prefer C63. It is a lot more comfortable and practical compared to a GTR. However if you only drive 8k miles per year then maybe GTR is the car for you. Despite GTR being much more expensive than C63 but i think it will hold its value very well.

a payment saver loan is a loan with a ballon at the end. you can pay the ballon off or refi it. terms from 24 to 60 months. basically like a lease but you own it. google pentagon federal credit union and do some reading. the easiest loan i have ever gotten. approved via phone in under 10 minutes. they were easy and very accomendating. you can join with a 25 dollar donation if you are not a federal employee.

"Rock" on this forum has both C63 and GTR, and maybe you should ask him for advice. I am also looking into getting either the C63 or the GTR as a daily driver .

I think a GTR as daily driver will become a bit tiresome. The suspension is wasy too firm and is suited more for the track. It is however a very rapid motor vehicle .

I think the AMG is more suited as a daily driver .

C63 or GT-R: I wonder what would be faster off the line to 60mph? A stock GT-R (without launch control) or an ECU tuned C63?

Even with out LC the GT-R is still a 3.6-3.7 car from 0-60. So unless the mod ECU can drop at least 0.6 sec, the GT-R will still be at least as fast if not faster than the C63.

I googled the penfed payment saver loan... what is a good # of months to go for? On a GT-R, the 24 and the 60 months are not too different in payment...

My advice would be to go with the C63. The C63 is by far more fitting for almost any occasion. Great looks, tremendous performance, and it's an excellent value, especially for an AMG. If it's between these two cars as your primary driver...... then C63 FTW!!!

The GTR on the other hand is a much more focused sports car. It is a hoot to drive, employs cutting-edge technology (gearbox, TT engine, suspension, brakes and complex computer management to make the whole package work together). Also, the GTR has tremendous and relatively inexpensive mod potential. It's not hard to get super-car numbers out of this ride.

Life has to be pretty good when this is the type of decision that occupies your Sunday afternoon.

Good luck.

I too was considering the GT-R as my DD, I found an 08 brand new or $8k under (yes, under - not over sticker). Once I test drove one it was an incredible car, but I wouldn't feel comfortable driving it as a DD. The backseats are completely useless (obviously) but if you never haul more than 1 other person it's not really a problem. In terms of leasing, it was nearly the same exact price even the though the GT-R was more, which was a plus. In the end I bought a C63 with PP as I thought it was the best of both worlds, add an ECU tune, air box, and new headers and you got you're self a complete 4-door monster

depends how big you want your ballon payment to be. i know im keeping my C63 so i didnt mind 60 months. that made my balloon small enough to either pay off in lump or refi for a very low payment at the end of the term.

basically you need to look at your cash flow and do whats comfortable for you. let me know how it goes!

I assume you were talking about an 09 GTR (there was no 08). I have never heard of a brand new GTR for 8K off. Actually, I've never heard of anything even close to that and I searched high and low. Not calling BS but I would love to know the dealership that made you that offer. Sounds a little too good.

Apologies, yes 09. Believe me or don't, it was $8k off of sticker. It was a dealer from Ohio I believe (I forget). He needed to move cars. The car was brand new, the plastic was still on the seats even. I was first in line to get it but I decided on the C63. I honestly found it on eBay and called the dealer up. It's not hard to find deals in this economy as long as you look enough. I wasn't going to pay $10k over sticker for a car.

Both my brother and a friend of mine recently bought brand new, 2010 GTR's (w/ Prem. package)...both paid ~ $80k (~ $5k discount off MSRP). In addition, both drive their GT-R as a DD...no complaints so far. I still have yet to test drive a GT-R, but I may seriously consider getting one (even a used low-mileage GT-R) as a DD when I decide to trade in my new '09 MB C63 AMG...in like 4-6 years.

btw -- the limited production GT-R is still holding its value extremely well; I haven't seen any low-mileage '09's for less than ~ $68k-$70k and the new, '10's are going for $80k-$85k (MSRP). It is a crazy FAST sportscar and blows the C63 AMG away in terms of performance...totally worth the $$, imho.

you can definitely get some discount off gtr now days. In fact i think they ain't as hot as many people think they are. Locally up here in canada theres always a new GTR coming into town once a while and there really isn't any long waiting list or anything.

I think it's fair to say that if you can afford either car, then the decision should be rather simple: do you NEED the back seat or not? However, another question is that can you found the car with all the options you need, and this is a big problem for me with the C63 as most don't come with PP. Of course if you can wait a little, then you can always have the dealer special order one for you with the perfect setup.

The bottom line is both cars are great.
