Hello - I just picked up my C63 and found that it has an engine built by Guido Nordheim. I have three questions for anyone that has a Nordheim engine in their AMG:
1. Did you observe the break-in period of 1,000 miles?

Drew, not to steal your thunder, but I think this is a really interesting thread and could be used for all of us with 63's, good idea.
I have the same questions for my builder - Joachim Schmidt.

Guido...Yea he's allright...I guess.
He sometimes ends up with extra nuts and bolts that he throws in the trunk. So check there and if there is none, then I guess you OK.
I read an article about this. They calculated the ammount of AMG engines MB pushes out a month and the numbers don't add up. They don't have enough man power to hand build each engine from scratch. Which means most of the steps are automated and the whole signed engine thing was a marketing push.
I am afraid I will have to disagree that AMG is lying to everyone arctichaze. I read that they put out 100 AMG engines per day during peak output, and they have roughly 50 master mechanics listed from what I can tell. I also read that each builder takes roughly 3 hours to assemble the engine, so 2 per day is very possible.
Three hours may be less than expected for a full engine but I am sure there are some parts to the engine that don't need to be hand assembled. Maybe that is your point. The engines are not built up completely from scratch, but I expect that all of the critical items are hand assembled.

I have a Guido built engine too. Mine is a beast!! No break-in. Car has been thrashed since 14miles on clock when delivered. My car runs a low 11, no problems, with headers, exhaust and tune.

Mine W211 E55 2004 has the engine built by Guido Nordheim. I actually visited the affalterbach factory for a guided tour. I simply asked the guide if Guido still was working and yes he did. So they called him from the reception and I got the chance to thank him for a great engine and the countless amount of smileys it has put on my Face
Honestly, this is just a hype.
The guys assembling the engines does NOTHING to ensure one engine is better than an another one.
Only thing that is 'good' is that they turn them over by hand, this to ensure nothing is binding.
And if it is, they set that engine to the side and start assemble an another one.
They never measure anything, they never adjust any ring gap, they never perfect the intake etc etc etc.
There is simply enough not time to do such things.
So an engine assembled by Karl or Heinz dosen´t shine more than any other one.

I´m sorry...
I am sorry too... Its people just like you that miss the point entirely. You fail to appreciate a thing for what it is or how its done. Its clear you know less than nothing about Mercedes-Benz AMG. Go back to your Ford.
He’s pretty much right. Mostly just marketing hype. Fun to feel though that the engine builder sleeps with the engine and designed it from inception….they have quality control level checks that make sure all is good then they move on. No time for romancing the engine…
