This is a good point. In NoVA we get maybe a week of snow a year w/c shuts down everything until the streets are plowed by the end of the day. I made an order for winter tires/wheels but now I'm second-guessing -- should I sacrifice 90% of my winter driving performance for a week of snow a year (w/c I probably could avoid mostly)? Or, do the Dunlop 3D's preserve some amount of dry weather handling?

I am picking up a set of 225/40R-18 Bridgestone Blizzak LM-60's mounted on a set of 18x8 MSW Type 12 BDC with the 433MHz tire pressure sensors from Tire Rack this Saturday. I am having them mounted at Tire Rack here in Indiana. This is my first time putting winter tires on a car so hopefully these work out ok!

Just bought a 2009 C63 last week...my dealer is insisting that I should only go with OEM AMG rims and tire pacakge otherwise it will screw up the car. My guts tells me this is BS...has anyone had any issues using non-OEM rims for snow?
Thanks
Thanks

You can buy the sales rep's Toyota Carolla and use it as a winter car for that type of money

I wouldn't believe that either! Why buy $4K worth of rims for the winter? I have had my car a week and already popped a front tire on a stock rim on the roads in Chicago and thats before the first snow fall of the year. I just picked up my winter rims and tires from Tire Rack today and they seem to be doing fine so far. If you can go to a Tire Rack distribution center they are first class. I was in and out in about an hour. They set the TPMS up for the new rims and packed the OEM's up to take home and didn't charge any mounting fees. They even put a new P0 on my OEM rims to be ready for next spring within that time. I would have loved to have a set of OEM's for winter rims but the $$$ just did not make sense.

My own sales guy at the Toronto dealership was the one who gave me a few references to get rims and tires at good price for winter. The only thing I would say though is make sure you new rims clear the front brakes i.e. many rims won't.

You definitely have to get 18's to clear the brakes....My SL55 wheels cleared with no problem

Rated very high on Tire Rack. Also, I've been going to the same tire shop for over 15 years and if they say there's no problem, then, there's no problem. Your dealer is always looking to make that extra buck so do your research, it could save you hundreds if not thousands.
