Slam hood shut?
Just curious when you close the engine hood should you slam it shut in order to engage the latch or are you able to push it closed without dropping or slamming it down?

I do about a 10 inch gentle slam. I used to shut it lighter but one day while driving down the road the hood started a light hopping. i pulled over to find it a little loose but not like i pulled the release. so i pulled the release and gave it a light slam. never had trouble again.

dnt lift it up too high, just gentle slam, but dnt push it to close the bonnet, these steels are not that strong, it will easily leave a mark ontop of ur bonnet...

drop it like it's hot. These hoods are meant to deform easy during impact of a pedestrian so like pat said you can damage the hood if you press too hard on it.

The deformation portion are the "crush zones" that are located on each side of the hood (they look like dimples). If you press anywhere on the hood, only do so at the front edge.

So the concensous seems to be a gentle slam from no more than 10 inches or so (or pushing down on front edge).
Can you damage the hood by dropping in down allowing for a gentle slam though? I didn't notice if there were rubber gromets/bumpers in place around the engine bay to keep the hood from impacting the metal directly.
