Help Needed! Powerchip (Tomorrow) Or Kleemann ECU NJ
All,
Tomorrow I was made aware that a Powerchip representative will be in the NJ area doing flashes at a local shop in the Passaic/Bergen County Area. Here is the situation. I was offered a slight discount off the retail price of the tune which is still though more then the Kleemann tune. Would it be worth it just to cough up the extra money and get it done in an hour and not be without your car for a couple days, or hold out for the Kleeman K1 tune which has gotten nice reviews here.

Mike, go with POWERCHIP.
You will love it!
Of all AMGs, C63 gets one of the most obvious benefits due to AMG limiting TBs openings and TQ limiting.
In the end if you do not like it, you can always have it flashed back to stock.
Enjoy!

Tuners are personal choices (like if I like red versus blue). Also consider if you will be doing further mods down the road.
My vote is KLEEMANN because their tuning philosophy fits mine, and I felt more comfortable with their reputation. Again, that's just me.

I was confused on their website about them quoting two different crank HP rankings. One being 509HP and another being 523 HP. Can you please explain or offer some insight into that?

FWIW, you may be able to get the Powerchip rep to match price of the Kleemann K1 ecu flash. If he won't budge, tell him you will send your ECU to Kleemann for the K1 flash then. This business is "cut throat" and some profit for him is better than no profit.

I just don't want to get ripped off considering the horror stories about tunes I read on this forum. Also if they can't honor free reflashes there is no way I would go for it.

Well, as far as MB-specific tuning goes, I would say that RENNtech and Kleemann are at the top for reputation and customer service. Powerchip does ecu flashes for many different mfgr's and car models. However, with that said, many ppl seem to be quite happy with their C63 AMG Powerchip ecu flash tune. So, it may be a toss-up, but it certainly is convenient to not have to remove your ecu and ship it out. I also believe you can get the Powerchip rep to match the Kleemann K1 price.

They(Powerchip) had emailed me about this too, but after a few emails back and forth, I didnt hear back from them. Anyways, you should be able to dyno at the facility as well too, but you'll have to pay around 90-100 for the dyno.
Me personally, I had my chip tuning down to Kleemann or Evosport(Powerchip), but, just for the plain fact that there has been a disconnect from Powerchip, I am 100% going with Kleemann. Im just a ***** when it comes to stuff like that.
Oh, and by the way, Cory at Kleemann was very detailed and very helpful with questions I had. I know that I'll have zero communication issues with Kleemann. After comparing customer service, from both, it was a no brainer for me.
Good luck! You'll be happy either way.

Regarding discounts... "Group Buys" seem to be relatively common on this forum. Have these tuners (kleeman or Powerchip) been approached in the past on a deep discount volume purchase? Something like 10 cars for 10 grand.

This is just my personal opinion..... I would feel more comfortable with Kleemann or RennTech over Powerchip. Please do your research before you decide which way to go

This is a no Brainer, go with either RENNtech or Kleemann. My personal choice is Kleeman of course but RENNtech is also top quality.

I can't speak to anyone else's experience with Powerchip, but since my initial tune back in October (paid retail $2k) I've become involved with the development process as a driver and I can say that this tune absolutely rocks. Totally changes the character of the car and you will not be sorry. I don't have the latest dyno numbers but I know the last set we had was around 60 additional whp on a dynojet. That's no joke. And if you're impatient like me, having the tune installed and running in an afternoon is an option too good to pass up...

Interesting, looks like 4-5 vote Kleemann, 2 vote PC, and several "unsolicited" recommendations for Renntech as well. Incidentally, the two votes for PC come from individuals that either own or are employed by shops that sell PC... whereas the other votes appear to be truly disinterested third party opinions. That may or may not matter to you.
Best wishes in whatever you decide.

I went to this yesterday, took a little longer than it should have due to some unforseen circumstances, but in the end everything worked out and I drove off a few hours later. Overall good experience. Jeremy wouldn't rest until we got it right. A-okay in my book.

I actually didn't get a chance to dyno tune, or dyno for that matter. I was told that I could dyno and they'd do a custom tune (as I understood it) but they'd already done a bunch of C63's within the 2 day window they were here so it'd most likely end up being the same file anyway. I plan on dynoing possibly this weekend, and I will definitely let everyone know how it goes.
The place I'm probably going to end up going is something like $150/hr or something.. About how many passes can I do in an hour including prep? I don't suppose I could fit 3?
