Audi R8 used (3000 on clock) or 2009 C63 (0 clock)
Hi everyone, first post here :-). I am considering buying a C63 amg fully loaded brand new with all options under the roof ( i am in Oman so the car is european spec. - sensors, performance pack, ipod, prem2, 19" multi spoke rims, etc.). I am also being offered an audi R8 imported from the states tyats been driven for 3000 miles, 2008 model fully spec'd too. C63 is white with black interior with CF trim. R8 is dark grey out and black in. I am not much of a racer just wanted a nippy day to day car for work and outings in 1. The extra 2 seats of the c63 are not an essential thing.
Which would you go for? And any tips on finding out if the car has been in an accident or fludded or whatever.
Your suggestions would really help me make up my mind.
Both cars are going for 78000 USD's.

If the Audi is in good shape (check VIN history...use Carfax and any Audi dealer can look up the mechanical hx of the car), I would jump at the R8. It is a unique looking car and from all accounts a very good (possibly great) drive.
All I know is that whenever, I see one driving around here I have to stop and look and admire it...the C63 is a great stealth car...great drive but in stock form and viewed by an unknowing eye could be thrown in with any other C300or C350 (esp w/sport package).
Good luck either way...

IMHO in this case i would go with the R8. Both are pretty similar in performance i believe but the R8 is a very unique car like AMGfan mentioned and the fact that non car enthusiasts often see the C63 as a regular C-class is also very true.
I would go R8 no doubt, good luck in whatever decision you make and please post pics of whichever you pick!

What do you need, a back seat, a trunk or do you need a 2 door sleek looking coupe just to daily drive in? If you need trunk space, the C63s 12.4 cubic feet got that covered vs. the R8's 3.5 cubic feet at the front. One thing I love about the C63 is that it's a sedan that has practicality and runs a world banned nuke under the hood that sounds like Armageddon through the exhausts. The R8 will turn heads as its lines are awesome, the C63 is more stealthy but can turn heads as well. White(which you have) + carbon fiber lip and tinited tails = .
For daily driveability I would put the money on the C63, more torque for daily driving and if the Audi is running a 6 speed manual, is it a problem if you get stock in traffic and you have to go through start and stopping with a clutch pedal? If so, the C63 7 Speed auto will take it there. If you are going to daily drive this car, I think the practicality factor gives the edge to the C63. Like others said, the R8 captures a rare aura that not many cars give off, everyone will turn and say WOW, atleast I do. It's all about what you want. If no need for the extra space and doors, R8 it is.

I've always found the lines on the R8 to be a bit off. Overall a good looking car, but I think it's the squished nose and the side panels that throw things out of wack for me. However, put the R8 next to the C63 and the R8 will grab more attention for sure, but the C63 is still a looker, especially with the 19" wheels. Do some exhaust mods and it will get EVERYBODY looking! (not always a good thing though )
But if you find yourself leaning towards the R8, I personally would look at a used 997.1 GT3, although I don't think you can find one for $78,000.

If you want something VERY unique then the R8 is the only choice............if you want something that is quite fast out of the box then the C63 is the way to go.

please explain
can you elaborate on this? I had a black r8 that i got rid of about 2 months after i got the c63 and i can honestly say that in the straight line, the c63 killed it being that is has the same 4.2L V8 found in the RS4. But in terms of handling, that quattro was fantastic.

The Audi R8 is not that powerful, weights a lot plus its AWD systems robs power when accelerating from a roll.
The new V10 is a different history. The current V8 with 420hp is quick but not as quick as the C63 AMG. and keep in mid I love the R8s, in fact my main picture on facebook is me inside the Perske's Audi dealer in Chandler AZ with two R8's.

Hahaha, I remember that video for sure. Torque surely can be a game changer, the R8 runs 317ft-lbs, while the E63 had 465ft-lbs...enough said.

Toe to toe with Ferraris? I can show you a bunch of youtube videos in which the R8 looses to other cheaper cars.

"e63 AMG is quicker in a straight line"
Note that the emphasis is the presenter's, not mine
if all you are going to do is drag race, then buy the C63, but if you want a better handling car, in a different league, with a better interior, get the R8.

I'd take an R8 over an E63, too, unless I needed the back seats
(which I do, which is why I drive an S55, not that I had the scratch to have an R8! )

Honda S2000 (2008)
Hi guys,
thanks for all the advice. Especially the first one. I am making sire i will check the VIN with carfax before buying. Seriously thanks ever soo much for that site again.
I am also leaning towards the v8 R8. i really don't need the extra power of a c63 or the seats. We will see what the cars history comes back with from carfax. Keep your fingers crossed for me that its clean :-).
I will definitly post pics one a purchase is done.
In the mean time, any other advice on how to make sure the car could be clean? And does anyone know where the VIN Number is located on an R8 :-)
thanks again guys for all the advice.

i think that the VIN # is on the part where the drivers side door locks into the clip (sorry i cant think of the name of that part right now) or the bottom left of the windshield...cant really remember since it was about a year ago.
also i wish you the best especially since $78K USD for an R8 with 3K miles would be an absolute steal if it is in perfect condition.
I remember i sold mine for $130K USD with about 5K miles on it...
