They have the 91 for the reason to reduce emmisions. So before fill up just stop by the plane, get a gallon of Av Gas then mix it with pump gas, take that tree huggers Or add some octan booster

Funny you should say that. In the mid 70's I used to drive a '66 Mustang worked to the max. I used to put 3/4 tank of ethel at my local gas station then drive to the local private airport and fill her up with AV Gas. Then go drag racing. That engine screamed and you could see the fuel gauge go down.

AZ is another with 91. You can get 100 oct race fuel so I mix approx 22 percent race gas in to arrive at a 93 octane.

That seems like kind of a pain in the butt.

Yeah, I have to agree it is less than ideal. For now I am ok putting in 3-4 gallons because I like the way the car performs with higher octane.

keep in mind that race fuel has a different stoich a/f ratio.

You might be better off adding torco.

LOL.... I do the same thing. I fill up 4 gallons of VP 103 and rest of the tank with 91. When I'm at the track, I sometimes mix half and half.

Octane 95 and Octane 98 are the only options in Europe.

But then again we pay almost 3 x price.

you also have a different measuring system. I believe yours is RON, where as in the US, its Ron+Mon/2

Update: I sent a note making the point that forced induction systems need to be addressed when discussing the acceptability of reducing engine octane rating requirements at higher altitudes. Plus the argument is based on dated carburetor technology.

There are 3 things in AZ that makes driving miserable:

1) 91oct gas
2) Altitude
3) Heat in the summer

Combine all three and you realize how much power you are losing.

On a hot summer day you can feel a SIGNIFICANT difference in power.

100 LL (poorly named because it is NOT a low lead fuel), and 140 are BOTH leaded fuels. I'm sure it was a joke, but DO NOT put av gas in any fuel injected car that still uses O2 sensors...

Av gas is great for a high compression injected car that has a no O2 sensor tune; or an older carbed vehicle...but it's a sure trip to the parts store for anything using an O2 sensor!
