Does anyone monitor oil temps?
I am curious if the C63 has some of the heat soak issues that the E/CLS63s have. Adding a cooling upgrade is about a grand these days and may be a way to get consistent power. Any thoughts on this?

it does get very hot but i havent had any problems. Maybe a 180 F thermostat combined with an ECU tune to allow the fans to come on sooner is the first choice? Anyone else?

I don't think the oil temperature is that big of a concern on the C63, the car does come equiped with an extra oil cooler in the front right fender that kicks in when the temperatute gets too high.

The 10 degree mod is easy but that is all it does.
Is anyone around here up to speed on the use of STAR to customize a few features? I am looking to buy one for my W211 and want to learn the C tricks, too.
If not oil temps, do you monitor coolant, intake temps? The E/CLS63s had major heat soak issues with continued blasts and needed ice packs to cool off.

Personally i monitor the temperature gauge very often and the highest it got to is about 120C. Thats on a dyno, and i also took it to the track and i don't recall it ever pass 120c.
However I live in Vancouver and this place isn't exactly hot so i can imagine people having a lot more over heating problem down south.

For 2006 models and earlier, this mod was actually just a "setting" in the STAR system and had nothing to do with a tune.
For some reason, when they introduced the 63 models, they took that setting out of the STAR system (or burried somewhere not easy to find)..... but I'm on the hunt for it![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
MHP somehow changes that setting through their tune, and to date, they seem to be the only one that know how to do it.

Reminder: the reference was to OIL temps which run much hotter than what I read in the previous posts. One trip down the 1/4 will bring the temp up to about 230F but it cools quickly. A 20 minute road course session will get the temp up in the 250-260 range which is still safe but the oil is trash after a hard weekend. Seasonal temps may lower these numbers but I would not begin to know how much.

By the way, on the 32/55 models, you could turn on the fan 10 degrees sooner by changing a setting in STAR DS without ever getting a hardware thermostat. I am still hoping that this feature is available for the 63 models but just have not been discovered yet.

No..... Andy's tune turns the fan on earlier in addition to the thermostat mod. I have spoken to him regarding the matter.

power beacuse of the extra load.
Can you not drill a hole through the thermostat to allow is to stay open all the time thus reducind coolant temp?

Sorry for the resurrection of this thread, all...but I've been having some heat issues lately (got to 262F oil and 209F water this weekend).
I scoped out the 180F thermostat, but don't want to do what MHP describes as a PITA install.
I've found in the Command Engineering Menu ("Tel Release" + "#" + "1" held simultaneously) under H/W the following:
Fan Settings:
Internal
External
Then, the options are, AUTO (Default for both), OFF, slowest, slower, Medium, Faster, Fastest (or something like this...I know AUTO, OFF and Fastest are there for sure).
I fooled with it, and could hear the external oil fan (at the front passenger side) kicking on and off as I changed from OFF to Fastest.
My question (finally): If I leave this set to Fastest, what will that do to the wear/tear on the fan motor? Is it worth having the fan on ALL the time to keep heat soak down a bit? The heat really made the car feel sluggish at times over the weekend.
Thanks.
