Every 40K for the diff fluid, or you can always have it done when/ if you get a quaife installed...

First diff fluid change should be at 2,000 miles, then 40k/2 years. I think that's what's recommended in the books to increase its "longetivity."

This is ridiculous, I have had such bad experiences at every dealership I have been to! I don't know what it is but dealership sucks and reading this thread makes me want to never take my car to a dealership again. Espcially after dealing with a company like Fluid MotorUnion who actually care.

I don't want anyone to wipe my feet for me but when I pull into a dealership I would expect for a service person to come and great me and that never happens. And i would hope that the things a service person tells me is actaully true! Because when i know more about cars then my service person does then that doesnt make me feel to comfortable (and I don't know to much about cars). Idk if it is because I am 21 but that shouldn't make a differencei am still a paying customer. Or it's just that the chicago dealerships I have been to, westmont Porsche and westmont Benz suck!

Dude, Westmont is the SH8tiest and most ruthless dealerhsip I have ever been to. They treat you like a piece of crap and the beat your car up with those stupid metal key holders and they thrash on your car like its a Toyota Corolla.

They want to constantly upsell you, pull the wool over your eyes and decieve you. I was lied to so many times and with every visit I made to fix issues they made me feel like I was a burden and a pain in their ***.

So far I have been treated very well by Leober. Very nice staff and show room and service center.

My family has been taking cars to westmont for years now, and they always seem to take are of my family! But when I go they can give a ****! Do u know anyone at Loeber who is cool with mods? I have been trying to become friends with people but like I said before my experiences at dealerships suck! hahah

I don't know if anyone is Mod Friendly. Personally I don't mod my cars anymore, I think they are built like a work of art and are high performance as intended to be, plus with all the money spent on buying the car, I don't want the headache of voided warranties, blah, blah blah. So good luck. You mod, you take a HUGE risk. Don't expect any sympathy when you go crying to the service department. If you crap money, then it really doesn't matter and you can 'play' with your car all day long and not care when it comes to a blown tranny or engine.

Have fun!

Speaking of differentials, do either of the diff plugs have a magnet in them?

I have the dealers do everything with my cars now and I keep forgetting to ask when I am there.

No magnets on the plugs in my diff and I have the factory LSD.

I did change mine at 3000Km and it was chock full of shiny metallic particles. If you have the LSD it looks like a very good idea to get it changed at 3000km/1875miles.

With the car on a lift the diff change is about 15 min , or about ?$25 shop labor. I do not trust that the MB techs know the correct (Castrol) lube . For that reason I would be really leery of a "free" diff drain. The Castrol is $35 to $70 per quart. No way would MB give it out free. BMW allegedly has this stuff in bulk. Again lack of trust. In labelled cans you can be ?sure.

Some people on here are talking diff oil change at 2000 miles, but it only applies to P.P.
Actually, it's NOTHING to do with P.P.....it's only when you've optioned the L.S.D. that you need to worry about a diff oil change.
Cheers, Pickles.

I got mine done at 3000km and was with the mechanic when he showed me the tiny metal pieces. Because of that I think its a good idea to get it flushed after its been broken in a bit. Just like the manual says it increases the longevity of the diff.

Is the diff flush covered? How much does it usually run?

There was a time where BMW techs were putting in the wrong fluid into the diffs causing the diffs to start grinding when making turns.

It was the correct fluid. There was a good discussion about this in the BMW forum. No harm was done with this grinding noise. You can complain though if you like and they will add an additive to silence the diff. That is one thing that I like with the M3 service. All oil based fluids were changed free of charge on the first 1200 miles. except DCT trans fluid. Most probably the total price of the car includes the 4 years service. But my fully loaded M3 almost cost the same as my C63.

The way I understand it is that you need to flush diff fluid ONLY if you have LSD and really the P31 package has zero impact on whether diff fluid needs flushed. My 2012 has p31 but not LSD so I don't think I need the flush.

The fluid in the LSD when leaving the factory is a break in fluid.

Here is the LSD fluid. Did mine for a second time with about 84k on the car. Got mine from BMW at half the price of MB. Had to bring my own container.

As some worried above, MB parts gave me the wrong stuff the first time, but I discovered it before using it.

Canned LSD lube in the flesh

Verified today. Visit mynismo.com. Assure yourself of clean, proper lsd lubricant at a good price, $47/ qt plus ups. Amaze your MB dealer , especially the parts guy. Local Nissan dealer probably much higher.

this is still accurate, correct, only those with LSD need to get a diff change at 2K? Just wanted to double-check that nothing has changed in the last year+ (the service guide says just the LSD-fitted models). thx

I guess the plus of not having an LSD then is that I don't have to worry about it (until I start thinking about purchasing a Quaife...). thx

I also have the C63 PP and the LSD option. As most everyone stated, only the LSD requires the fluid change at 2k miles. I just had mine done and it was expensive @$251.92! That is about what I used to pay for the oil change on my previous ISF (9.6 quarts of Mobile 1 Synthetic). Anyway, not to hijack this thread, but the fluid PN used is 001-989-52-03-10 transm. oil MB so I hope it is the correct stuff.
