Oil Change???

I have just over 5k on my car, I also added 2 qrts of 0-40 oil already. I was planing on bringing my car in for an oil change this weekend but the car says it doesn't need an oil change for another 5k. I don't know what to do. When should i bring my car for the first oil change? Thanks I know this is a dumb question.

Never wait for your car to tell you it needs an oil change.

5,000 KM is normal for allot of people who care about their cars to change their oil at, even though MB usually recommends 10-12k intervals on most models.

Personally I change my oil every 10 tanks of fuel. As I get 500 km/tank this averages out to every 5000km.

Believe it or not your engine is still breaking-in, if you only have 5k on her. Early oil changes in a new engine are ideal. I recommend, and think most also will to change it now, and to keep doing so at 5k intervals.

enjoy your AMG,

Kevin

I do not see the need for doing more than what the manufacturer recommends. It is obvious that MB will be conservative in their intervals to make sure that no problems occurs. Enjoy your car and only only go when your car tells you to (at least 10,000 km). Just make sure that it has oil.

Ageed. I tend to go a little shorter than 10Kmi, but just because it is what my schedule allows.

Some would say, once every set of rears!

Change your oil!

At almost 4,000 miles I finally got around to changing the oil and have a look around (and under) our '09. I was APPALLED at what I found in the oil filter! Sasha must have had a bad day, as there was way too much material/debris in the element. I have saved the filter just in case we have a problem later.

Bottom line-Consider doing the first oil change early! My intention was to change it at 1,000 miles, I sure wish I had. By the way, Mercedes recommends a 5W40 oil in the 6.2 AMG engines meeting their 229.5 spec. sheet. I used a Total oil product that meets the spec. Subsequent changes will be done at 7500-8000 miles or once a year (which ever comes first). I will continue to perform a postmortem on the filters. Cross your fingers for me!

You all own one of the most technologically advanced engines out there. IMO you bought an AMG for performance, and you all are obviously automotive minded people being members of this forum. Most likely your AMG will be drove harder then a standard Mercedes and yet you do not see the benefits of doing a simple oil change every 5k?

It isn't required with today's synthetic oils. Do some oil analysis the next time you change your oil. You will see that after 5K kms, there is still plenty of life left in the oil.

Besides, most people on this forum will sell their AMG before the useful life is over (some in the first 6 months of ownership). It won't be their problem anyway.

I didnt know the C63 ships with synthetic oil?
Im sure you are right, there will be much life in an oil after 5k, and that is the reason for changing it then. Simply keeping fresh fluids in your car.

Yes, they do. Mobil 1 is the oil of choice for MB.

My BMW goes 22K kms between oil changes. 8L of Synthetic...

I read that they're switching from Mobil1 to Motul 0w-40 or 5w-40 synthetic.

Unfortunately, a lot of forum members are just as uninformed as you. Just because an oil is recommended by a manufacturer does not mean it is quality oil. Most companies have partnerships with oil companies (i.e BMW and castrol or MB and Mobil1) Have any of you actually looked at the oil coming out of your car at 10K? It comes out pitch black...and looks extremely overused and burnt....I witnessed it first hand with my dads c300 4matic using 0w-40 Mobil1. Even the best quality oils (i.e Fuchs Long Life Titan GT1) should be changed out every 8-10K miles to ensure a stain & residue free motor. Keep in mind that most C63 owners are pushing their cars to the limit and proper lubrication is essential to engine longevity; you might not ever see the problems that arise from extended oil change intervals but rest assured they will present themselves when the car reaches the 80-100K miles area.

*Take a look at this post on the m3 forum showing two different engines, one with early oil changes and one following BMW's recommendations 8-10k.

http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...90#post4277990

Most AMG engineers and BMW specialists know how poor the quality is in Mobil1 and Castrol and if asked privately they will suggest alternate oil companies or suggest oil changes with oem oil at half the interval.

The Mercedes McLaren SLR comes from the factory with Fuchs Titan GT1; think about it.... if mobil1 and castrol is so good why don't they put it in their supercars?

Thank you for the insult. I don't think I ever suggested that Mobil 1 is a quality oil. I simply stated that MB puts that in the car and that it is synthetic. That is fact. Synthetic, to my knowledge, has longer service intervals.

My BMW is a lease and BMW pays for the oil changes. At the end of the lease, I am not planning on keeping it and am doing the minimum of what is required by the terms of the lease.

As for my C63, I plan on changing the oil at 3000 kms when I get the rear diff oil changed. I also plan on getting it changed twice as often as the regular interval for piece of mind whether it is necessary or not.

It was not meant as an insult, so don't take any offense to my statement However, you are correct about synthetic oil having longer service intervals... but it still depends on the actual molecular composition of the oil. You can compare a normal synthetic to a long life synthetic and the long life will be a much higher quality oil in all aspects (depending on the brand.)

With your C63, if you still use Mobil1 I would suggest 3K miles as well.
