Oil Change???
5,000 KM is normal for allot of people who care about their cars to change their oil at, even though MB usually recommends 10-12k intervals on most models.
Personally I change my oil every 10 tanks of fuel. As I get 500 km/tank this averages out to every 5000km.
Believe it or not your engine is still breaking-in, if you only have 5k on her. Early oil changes in a new engine are ideal. I recommend, and think most also will to change it now, and to keep doing so at 5k intervals.
enjoy your AMG,

Ageed. I tend to go a little shorter than 10Kmi, but just because it is what my schedule allows.
Some would say, once every set of rears!
Bottom line-Consider doing the first oil change early! My intention was to change it at 1,000 miles, I sure wish I had. By the way, Mercedes recommends a 5W40 oil in the 6.2 AMG engines meeting their 229.5 spec. sheet. I used a Total oil product that meets the spec. Subsequent changes will be done at 7500-8000 miles or once a year (which ever comes first). I will continue to perform a postmortem on the filters. Cross your fingers for me!

Besides, most people on this forum will sell their AMG before the useful life is over (some in the first 6 months of ownership). It won't be their problem anyway.

Im sure you are right, there will be much life in an oil after 5k, and that is the reason for changing it then. Simply keeping fresh fluids in your car.

My BMW goes 22K kms between oil changes. 8L of Synthetic...
*Take a look at this post on the m3 forum showing two different engines, one with early oil changes and one following BMW's recommendations 8-10k.

Most AMG engineers and BMW specialists know how poor the quality is in Mobil1 and Castrol and if asked privately they will suggest alternate oil companies or suggest oil changes with oem oil at half the interval.
The Mercedes McLaren SLR comes from the factory with Fuchs Titan GT1; think about it.... if mobil1 and castrol is so good why don't they put it in their supercars?
My BMW is a lease and BMW pays for the oil changes. At the end of the lease, I am not planning on keeping it and am doing the minimum of what is required by the terms of the lease.
As for my C63, I plan on changing the oil at 3000 kms when I get the rear diff oil changed. I also plan on getting it changed twice as often as the regular interval for piece of mind whether it is necessary or not.

However, you are correct about synthetic oil having longer service intervals... but it still depends on the actual molecular composition of the oil. You can compare a normal synthetic to a long life synthetic and the long life will be a much higher quality oil in all aspects (depending on the brand.) With your C63, if you still use Mobil1 I would suggest 3K miles as well.
