Break-in period
I just passed 10k on my 2009 GL550, and I followed the recommendations religiously. No problems with the engine (or anything else on the vehicle) at all.
Thoughts?
I forgot what it says on the sticker as to what rpm you shouldn't go past but follow it and drive it hard at the same time is what I would say
A mechanic friend of mine told me break-in periods on today's engines do not make sense at all. Something about alignment with pistons in the old days.
I remember the second car I bought, I burned the **** out of it on the very first day and you know what, it's still going strong after 10 years so break-in period my ***
I'd say go easy for the first 100 miles and after that make sure the engine is warm at all times before doing big accelerations and you'll be fine (what you shoud always do anyway).
Enjoy the new car!
