Break-in period

I'm about to take delivery of my 2010 Arctic White C63, and I was wondering how important people think the factory recommended break in period (1000 miles under 85mph / 4500rpm I believe) is?

I just passed 10k on my 2009 GL550, and I followed the recommendations religiously. No problems with the engine (or anything else on the vehicle) at all.

Thoughts?

This is a common topic and has been frequently discussed. Perhaps do a search here as this board is a pretty good source of information.

drive it as hard as you can while following the sticker...
I forgot what it says on the sticker as to what rpm you shouldn't go past but follow it and drive it hard at the same time is what I would say

Make sure she is warm then proceed to give her a good spanking.

1000 miles under 85mph? So they are saying go half the speed of the car for 1000 miles. Yeah and I'm not banging the prom queen...

A mechanic friend of mine told me break-in periods on today's engines do not make sense at all. Something about alignment with pistons in the old days.

I remember the second car I bought, I burned the **** out of it on the very first day and you know what, it's still going strong after 10 years so break-in period my ***

I'd say go easy for the first 100 miles and after that make sure the engine is warm at all times before doing big accelerations and you'll be fine (what you shoud always do anyway).

Enjoy the new car!
