KUMHO Tire Installed Today

Finally, at 6100 miles, got rid of the factory tires. Went with Kumho Ecsta ASX, 245/40R18 front, and 265/35R18 rear. Price was right, tires are all season, and the drive from the tire dealer back to the house confirmed the product. Smooth and quiet, I'll never mount another Pirelli on my rims. Day and night difference in the overall ride quality. We have the P/P suspension, and the handling just improved on my daily driver.

Just to alert anyone, I have owned 3-4 different sets of Kumhos in my day, and every single one of them gets quite loud about 40% into its life and paaaaaaaainfully loud 70%+.

Curious to hear your experiences with them on the C63.

Yeah, we have been running Kumho's several years now, on several different vehicles. Never have had the noise problem you speak of. What models did you buy?

I went through a local tire center in town. Normally I buy direct through the tirerack.

You can check the tirerack to get current prices/shipping. On the tirerack, fronts were listed at $147, rears $192.

The Kumho products have been meeting our needs for several years. Wear and drive has been more than satisfactory.

C63 & Mustang Mach1(s)
Funny you say that about Kumho's. I have the MX's (from Tire Rack) on both my Mustangs, never again. The road noise is unbearable at 70% treadware. I'm looking at something else when the time comes for the C.

I too had the Kumhos on my Lexus and can 100% attest to the noise becoming huge after wear in.

Unbearable is right...it literally sounds like a bad wheel bearing. Terrible.

Ive had ASX's, AST's, MX's, and Supras as I recall - Supra's were the worst. ASX's were pretty bad too. They are cheap and sticky and were used as street tires for a loud, smelly car so I didnt care.

If you are going to go Kuhmo the only two tires to get are MX & XS, the rest aren't worth it at all

I have the Kuhmos ASX on my Clk55 now soon to be replaced. Yes they get loud as they wear. Comfortable tire. Sidewalls are not really stiff so the handling suffers. Since now they are made in China I'm going with the GY Eagle GTs.

I'm not surprised a new set of A/S tires are more quiet than a worn set of Max. Performance Summer tires.

Of course I mean summer tire, but in a high performance application that's the only real way to go. Yes Kuhmos can get loud in the last 20% of their life cycle but that can be said about most tires. In the dry it is the best bang per buck you can get. The Dunlap Direzza Z1s are the best all around tire on the market, but in the dry the XS is actually even better (It got the highest skidpad rating Tirerack has ever achieved in any of their tests so that has to account for something).

Get the Dunlap Direzza Z1s if you can, but if you can't the Kuhmos are a great alternative for less $$.

Another vote for Hankook Ventus Evo V12. I'm running 275s in the rear and they've been great so far.

Not so great in all these snow recently though but thats to be expected.
