It looked like it was too good a deal to be true to begin with.

Yeah I didn't see the LSD option either. Also missing is the option for the Designo black leather interior. AMG had annouced that the Designo interior upgrade would be avaible for 2010. I'm not sure what's going on, but it would definitely suck if US buyers cannot choose these options.

As of December production in 2009, the P30 performance package is being retired.

In its place is the P31 Development Package:

• Lightweight AMG Forged Pistons
• New Lightweight Connecting Rods
• Revised Crankshaft
• New Engine Management
• AMG Compound Braking System
• New Red-Painted Brake Calipers
• New Carbon Fiber Trunk Spoiler
• New Exclusive Engine Intake Runners in Titanium Grey Finish
• Top Speed Increased to 174mph
• AMG Leather/Alcantara Performance Steering Wheel

The Limited Slip Differential from the P30 Performance Package will be made a standalone option and can be ordered using code 471.

There is no 4-Matic option for the C63.

The P31 and LSD options are available for the U. S. market.

The wheels for the U. S. market are the current 18" wheels on the C63 and a 19" option will not be offered in the U.S.

The P31 Development package on the website for $4050 shown above looks like the old package with a new designation code/name and the LSD removed. Why would MB not list the most important elements of the package?

That is a very strange link. Perhaps it is old?

When I was debating on buying "off the lot" vs. ordering a C63, my sales associate showed me the dealer ordering guide for December 2009 and later builds. It clearly stated all of the internal engine upgrades and an additional 30 HP.

I don't have that ordering guide with me right now (I have it at home), but I have quoted from it directly in another post about the P31 -- the guide had a published date of early November, I think.

This is the current page that MB USA sends you to if you click on C63 under vehicles.

It may be a fail safe while the transition from P30 to P31 is happening. I am sure cars are arriving still today with the original performance package. MB may not want those buyers misinterpreting what they are getting. It was bad enough at the original roll out.

The Canadian website says:

Electronic Speed Limiter Deletion
Performance Package
AMG trunk lid spoiler
Red brake callipers

What's actually part of the "performance" package is unknown.

I you want my opinion P31 should be skipped. The supposed 30HP (if its there) is just a more agressive ECU, meaning if you do get another ECU tune, you will be getting the same power as a standard c63 (according to Cory@Kleeman) and it includes the removal of the speed delimiter.

For the rest, well if you absolutely need red brake calipers and a suede steering wheel with lower wear resistance go for it =)

I think the only worthwhile aspect is the forged internals, although I'm not sure you need that with what folks are already doing on this forum. So, I'd probably skip it too...

Do the forged internals come from some other engine (e.g., Black Series cars)? I just find it odd that MB would go through the trouble of developing internals for the 63 motor when it appears that it will be replaced by an FI motor within the next couple of years. I would not be surprised if the motor components of the P31 package never materialize.

I am looking now at "The C-Class 2010 Reference Guide" - published November 4, 2009. It was distributed to dealers - it is the real deal.

And it lists all the nice engine internals listed under the "AMG Development Package" - P31.

The package includes (and I quote):

"Engine enhancements: Lightweight forged pistons, lighweight connecting rods, revised crankshaft, revised ECU
Exclusive engine intake runners in titanium grey finish
Power increase (+30 HP)"

The retail price is $5,950. There is some other stuff as noted in other posts like red calipers, but clearly the engine upgrade is included. I think HHughes is right about the website trying to be consistent with what people are now getting, although P31 delivery will start in just a few days in the SE United States.

And the engine internals are almost certainly from the M159 engine in the SLS. (That does not mean this is a detuned M159 - the M159 has a TON of other stuff.)

Especially in Canada, where cold winters aren't friendly to forged pistons.
