Im in the Market for a used 2008-2009 C63 after reading a few threads about how much diffrent the car feels with the LSD i have set my mind to find a car with an LSD.

Can anyone advise me on how am I going to know if the car has LSD. is there a diffrence in the way the rear diff looks from the outsite if i look under the car? or is there a certin code in the vin #.

I would appreciate your help guys.

Ask the person/dealer you're buying it from? Heard it sits a little bit lower than the ones without and if it does you can't really tell. The other way is probably by looking at the brakes. Don't remember but I think the '09 with P030 package came with ceramic brakes.

Call your local MB dealer with the VIN- they can pull what's called a VMI (vehicle master inquiry) which will tell you all factory options, as well as service history if it was serviced at an authorized MB dealer.

Quaife makes a better LSD than OEM anyways so it might not be too important to find one.

Not sure if your claim with Quaife is proven but having an OEM LSD regarding warranty issues carries its weight in gold.
x2 regarding Cory's comment, the easiest way is to get the dealer to pull that car. They will instantly tell you if it has LSD.

Find an empty parking lot, turn ESP off, put it in M mode and stomp on the throttle.

Tell us what happens.

If you can get it on a lift it is relatively easy to test.

Put in N

Spin rear wheels

If both wheels spin in the same direction you have LSD

If each wheel spin in opposite direction you do not have LSD

At least this is what my mechanic is telling me.

Any car including 09 and older that has the performance package, which would include 2 piece front rotors and alacantra (sp) wrapped steering wheel will have LSD. 2010 and up, LSD was a standalone option and you will have to ask the dealer to check the build sheet or lift the rear end like the other guy said and spin a tire with your hand.

No, actually jjb03, eat your words. That is the 100% correct way to tell if a car has an LSD. As a 2nd check, get someone to hold the wheel on the other side of the car and if one wheel can spin without the other turning, no LSD

If you can't get it to a hoist, just call MB with the VIN and they'll tell you if it came with the LSD.

There is also an option code sticker, though I can't remember it's location on a 204. It will have a bunch of numbers on it, each grouping containing 3 digits. If you see 471, you have LSD. Check on the underside of the hood, in the trunk under the carpet, or maybe, but doubtful in the door jambs.

Find out the fun way: Do a burnout. Two even stripes = LSD, One big stripe = no LSD.

The 08 dont come with PP. I know for sure 09 have the 174 limit option part of the PP.

I don't remember the exact numbers, but I have seen that it has at least 40-50% more locking than OEM. I am sure one of the vendors that sells them including evosport have those kind of specs. As for warranty concerns I hear you on that, but that goes for lots of mods everyone does here and no one has issues doing those. I think the performance is worth it as well if it were my purchase.

I opted to get the MB LSD because I didn't want to risk blowing a 10,000$ box and having my warranty claim denied because of an aftermarket LSD "putting too much stress" on the gearbox (or some bull**** they would spin).

Took a look tonight. I think its the black sticker with white letters under the hood in the middle towards the front. No 471 for me

A number of 09 models came with LSD as stand alone. An oversight by MB, as soon after they limited the LSD to P030. I have one with 'delimitated!' top speed and LSD but with out the brakes and suspention of P030...I actually PAID for the top speed increase.
I will gladly verify anything on my car (minus the burn out test of course)

The sticker you found is the one I was thinking of, however that lists body codes. I was looking for the sticker today at work, and I belive it is no longer place on vehicles. So if anyone wants to know for sure, pm me your VIN, and I can send you a PDF of your data card.
