C63 goes 180.73 in the Top Gun Run Mile in Miami
There were many high powered cars there. Like mentioned in other threads there was a Ford GT that went 253mph and a Porsche 930(I think) that went 236mph. Those two were the two giants. There were a select few that were above the 200mph mark and congrats to them as well!!
Thanks to Andy and MHP for making this all possible. Great performance and tons of fun!!
We made seven runs that were recorded via V-Box and they were:
177.87
177.96
178.21
178.77
179.10
179.85
180.73 !!
For those of you with top speed questions we made one run that lasted almost 1-1/2 miles. Here's the break down. Needless to say its NOT done at 1-1/2 miles.
Mile - 2,000' = 158.55
Mile - 1,000' = 170.15 (gain of 11.6mph)
Mile = 177.88 (gain of 7.73mph)
Mile + 1,000' = 181.76 (gain of 3.88mph)
Mile + 2,000' = 184.90 (gain of 3.15mph)
Mile + 2,430' = 186.30 (Still in 5th gear)
Still gaining at a decent rate!!
RaleighC63 ran 172.1 and Emercier ran 168.50 and did great also!! There was a couple of other C63's that were there but didn't run. Great to see the turn out from the "C" crowd.

Congrats to all that attended and participated on their record setting runs!!
Just in case the excuse is going to be used that we had a great tail wind late in the day I have to say that the run we made at 9:00am with no wind was the 178.21 run. The weather was in and out. The DA was around +500 the early part of the day and worsened to above +1000 the middle of the day. By the end of the day it was about +1200. Needless to say conditions were not stellar for record setting times but we had a BLAST!!
I believe Top Gun Run will have a list of participants and speeds on their web site soon.

Those are some nice speeds but absolutely fatal without a cage or at least a 5 point harness.
How long did it take you to reach 180?
Carful out there!

We ran West to East yesterday which helped with the speeds and handling. The wind changed constantly from the south/southwest to southwest and back again. It created some interesting driving at times.
yes, yes, and yes......
We are now running 5 point roll cage, 5 point harness, and (as always) helment.
The 180.73 was reached in 1 Mile.
I'll try and upload some pics from this weekend with the cage in them. Haven't got around to downloading camera yet... long weekend.

Interestingly enough, my friend's "daily driver" 10.6 sec. @ 132mph tuned GT-R doesn't have a roll cage, and I thought it would be required for 10-sec. cars @ PBIR...do you know the (ET/Trap speed) NHRA requirement for a roll cage?
Just curious.btw - Congrats on the amazing speeds for this 1mi. Top Gun event.

Correct, Keith's daily driver now has a (bolt in) roll cage in it. It does impair the comfort of the back seat, but that's it, and very rarely does anyone ride back there. As far as NHRA goes, anything 11.49 or faster is required to had a cage and harness. We have seen MAY other (faster) cars without cages also. But with the number of tracks, and the amount of time we spend at various tracks, we were starting to get questioned on the cage. In fact, OSW told us not to come back without it....

Great times, Keith... amazing for a "base" C AMG.
