A black car
A lot of rental insurace says you have to be 25 to drive the car. It's not that they're being rude to you, their insurance probably won't allow it.

It may be that they're now handling loaner vehicles through a car-rental company. My local dealership used to run their own loaners, but now they've contracted out that work to Enterprise. You still get an MB like before, but it's now a car-rental that the dealership is comp'ing.

I seem to recall a major surcharge (or outright denial) when a car-rental would be requested by an individual under age 25, which might've been what he was referring to.

Jumping to the conclusion that it's blatant age discrimination might be a bit rash... YMMV.

Your insurance always covers you in another car (if you have comprehensive). There is no full-up insurance policy that doesn't cover you in another car. If you have that sort of policy, you need to drop it now. I had my wife driving her brothers TL for 6 months while we were both deployed...his insurance covered the car, but her insurance covered both her and the car...therefore, the car was covered by both, and she was covered by ours.

If that wasn't the case, every driver would be required to purchase the optional (and criminal I might add) insurance that car rental companies offer...the 25 Age thing is a responsibility thing (ie. drivers 25 and over have less accidents, and leave them with a decent fleet of cars longer).

As for the age thing, if they can't loan to you, 2 things:
1) They should never have done it before
2) They should have told you this when you bought your car

One of the great services of a high end dealership is the loaner program...without that, MB is not much better than Honda (please, no flames...I get that it is...but their service isn't).

im 21 and when i brought my merc to MB of SD they would always give me a loaner no questions asked, and they actually never charged me. granted it could be that im military and the sales manager and service manager are both former also. but i know MB of SD has their own c class's that they loan out and not some enterprise cars.

Im in my 30s and my dealer always gives me a loaner but a "crap" small loaner car..not even a euro car. I told my friend about this and he gave me a tip on how to handle with this situation to get a MB loaner. He said pretend that your mad and tell them you didnt buy a 30-40 grand car but a 70,000++ car and your giving me a ****ty car!!! After that they always gives me a MB loaner.

.
As much as I dislike the sales side of Fletcher Jones in Vegas, they give out C300s and GLKs as loaners.

I hate this too - I walked into Murray Motors on Colorado & nobody even came over to talk to me at first. The salesman I ended up working with was a good guy, and he earned his commission on my cash purchase of a GL550. But other places I've dealt with always seem less than courteous when a 22 y/o pulls up in a C63 or a 550. Maybe they think it's daddy's car. ****ers.

I hate this rule. Last week I took my SL in for warranty work and they said I'm not 25 so they can't give me a Mercedes. I drove the POS Chevy home and wrote an email to MBUSA about me giving them a MSRP $120,000 car and got a $10,000 car as loaner. MBUSA called me the next morning to drive it back to exchange for a 2009 C300 4Matic loaner with only 1200 miles on it.

I can certainly understand the frustration as I was once younger and not able to get a rental or loaner. I guess I find it amusing though that you guys take such offense to it, when you pretty much know the rules from the beginning. Im not saying it's OK for the service guy to be a jerk, but if you know the rules, why is it such a big deal? If you're 22 or 25 and can afford the cars you drive (C63, GL550), more power to you and I would expect the same treatment as someone who was older, at least that is how we do it. However, you have to understand that we also get our fair share of "youngsters" who claim to have the money, etc and just want to kick tires. Main rule is "It's not right to pre-judge, b/c you never know who has the money and who doesn't".
