ipod. What Choices Do We Have?
So for 2009 models with just the one ipod connector in the dash, I have realized that with my old ipod, I think 2nd or 3rd Gen, it will charge the ipod but with the new ipod I have, it will NOT charge it. Obviously it will NOT connect to the iphone also or charge it as well.
What choices do we have in order to not add any wiring through the dash? Any adapters? So I guess those who have the new ipods cannot charge and listen to music.
I guess I wanted to know what you guys have been doing with that connector and the options we had with it...
Excluding the CF slot.

2 solutions that work detailed in this thread:
https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...ion-works.html
There's the cablejive cable that injects the proper voltage to the 3g/3gs/new ipod for charging, and the much cleaner OEM mercedes cable for 2010 COMMAND units where the cable is in the glovebox that will properly charge the new iphone/ipods.

Thank you for the link Rage. Good reading as always.
So here is the break down.
1. Spend about $2K on retro fitting the cables in the dash to actually see it on the screen
2. Purchase the cable jive ONLY for 2010 models to be able to charge iphone and see on screen
3. Use old ipod and have it charge just fine, view in dash ONLY 2009 models, view on screen 2010 models
4. Purchase cablejive to use on newer ipods to play and charge on all models. See only in dash on 2009 and on screen in 2010
This totally blows. I know people have expressed frustrations already and I am only late to the game because I had some time to get around to actually realizing it. I cant believe that Mercedes couldn't get their act together on this STUPID little detail. I am still baffled as to how this never occured to them during testing and design. It's not like the ipod/iphone came out in 2008. Did they not realize that the user cant use screen to see songs and shuffle through them or that the iphone would not sync??!!
Too busy watching German **** in their off time...
Any other ideas or comments?

If you have the media interface (OEM) you can simply get a new media interface cable from the dealership parts department. Apple changed the charging parameters on the new generation models - this wasn't MB's decision/fault.

Can anyone confirm that buying a new media interface cable will work to charge the latest ipods/iphone. Regarding not having the songs in the media interface, this is really no big deal. Having them in the dash is fine. Maybe what you do not know is that you can use the steering wheels phone commands to move thru the iphone/ipod menu. (use the left hangup button to access the menu).

Pardon for not understanding, but what exactly do you mean? I bought the new two pronged cable, but how can it be used? For 2009 you need the connecting slot which we dont have. Please explain...

Hello, I am thinking about buying an ipod. Yes I know that i have some catching up to do. I currently use the usb connector to read thumb drives with music. My question is if I have a 2010 model with the ipod interface cable, will it also charge an ipod nano or just read from it?

This is the simplest and best solution:

This cable will let you charge all iPhones 2G, 3G, and 3GS. I have tested it and verified it.
I assume it also works with all iPods. (haven't tested it personally)

COMAND Online sells a retrofit kit to add the UCI to the 08 - 09 cars for 429 pounds including VAT. For those buying it outside of the UK we would get the VAT back and it seems much mre reasonable than the $1500 - $2000 I've seen/heard.

Interesting find qship5. Is this an aftermarket item or is this OEM stuff?
Price is definitely cheaper than what our dealers recommend but still a bit steep just to have command abilities. Nice find anyway
