I dont know much about the CLK 63 Black series. Why does it cost so much more than the C63 and is it "better" or "different"?

It's basically a track car made street legal. No comfort amenities and plus there are no rear seats. A lot of stuff was cut out for weight saving.

Read about it yourself: http://www.mercedes-amg.com/webspeci...63blackseries/

If you wanted, you could probably sink $30k or so into a C63 and make it perform about the same.

CLK63 Black Series
For a Mercedes it's a very unique car compared to the C63. It's a direct derivative of the F1 safety car. They share the same engine, but that's pretty much it. It's like a 997 coupe compared to a GT3, built for the track in mind. The chassis is seem welded and triangulated, directer steering, oil coolers for engine, transmission, steering and differential, KW coilovers with heavy duty control arms and axels, 3" wider track compared to a regular CLK, strut braces front and rear, no sunroof, no rear seats, composite fender flares, 350 units made for the US and a total of 500 units world wide. It still has some luxury features like the Bose sound system, 6 disc CD changer and navigation. The only colors available were silver, black, white and red. No options available, all the cars had the same factory equipment. If you ever get a chance to drive one, you'll know the difference immediately. It's one of my favorite cars I've ever owned.

Yes, should be a collectors item in the future since they only made it for a year. I believe you could pick one up now for under 80k.
But I think the tranny in the C63 is better than the BS...

I don't think I've ever seen one in Vancouver. Are they legal in Canada?

It's amazing to think that the production was so limited, yet I've seen 5 of them in the Miami area.

Mehanically, its the same transmission. The C63 just has the Speedshift PLUS software that rev matches downshifts - thats the only difference

Definately worth getting if you can find and afford it. I drove them all at the AMG challenge (C63, E63, SL63) and the CLK63 BS was by far the best. We drove the BS in the autocross competition, simply, it was a fantastic car. Probably wouldn't be that good for everyday driving -- but, someone who owns one should chime in here. SMP?

if only the BS had a manual transmission, it would be a car I'd consider.

it's a great car--when I was having my car serviced a few years back (when the CLKBS just came out), I heard them start a car up and the whole sales floor roared and shook. I walked very briskly (okay I was pretty much running) to see WTF made that sound

And they were driving the car out back for delivery.
Some guy was picking it up that day and my SA told me the guy owns like six AMGs and he wanted this one--I guess he saw it in the showroom when one of his cars was being serviced and said "yeah I'll take that home too."

Anyway, I got an up close look at it and the rims still haunt me to this day, I think they are the best rims MB has ever produced
If you haven't seen the rims in person look for some pics at least--multi spoke, polished beauts!---I'd pay big bucks to get those rims on my incoming C63, but they only fit the BS
And the fender flares are redonk-u-lis!

As a CLK owner I was checking it out in detail and the CF trim and shifter looked really nice--and the exhaust sound was insane, similar to the C63 but a bit more bark.

The only thing I didn't like was the back seat delete, it just looked funny--but one serious car and I give serious props to anyone who owns one and even someone who have driven one!

I wish somebody made the BS Rear Diffuser to fit the C63...I'd love that over the one I have on there now...that really rounds out the rear end.

That's the nice thing about the Black Series, it can be used as a daily driver, compared to a GT3 which has a pretty stiff clutch and having a 6 speed manual in LA traffic is not that much fun. Clutch in, clutch out, shift first, shift second 5000 times in a daily commute gets old quickly. A had a few Porsche's, and the BS is much easier and more comfortable to drive in traffic.
