Forgestar F14 Wheels Vibration

Hey guys,

Just had my new 19" F14's installed on Friday after over 2 months of waiting, with Vredestein Sessanta Tires.I was riding on winter DUnlop 3d until then with my OEM rims 18" and was able to drive 160km/hr without vibration. However since my install from a Reputable performance and mod racing dealer I get a vibration at 120km/hr(75mph).

Any idea what could be causing this, the installer thinks that a weight might have fallen off, but I think it's more than that.

Ask whoever installed your wheels if they used hubcentric rings and the correct wheel bolts. I've never lost a wheel weight ever, but it's a possible.

+1

I'd certainly make sure the original ball-seat bolts were not reused. The Forgestars and many aftermarket wheels require cone-seat bolts.

I have the original bolts, the F14's came with cone-seat bolts, the locks that came with it were a fraction too long so they had to shave them off on the rear since they were interfering with the emergency brake...

Probably best to re-balance locally. It could very well be from a lost weight.

My Forgestar/Nitto combo took a lot of weight in the front to get perfectly balanced. I have not experienced vibration issues at any speed.

I have the same problem since I have the Forgester 14 installed, I have the H&R 5mm spacer installed in order to clear up th brake. The front wheels have been balance twice but the problem still there. This weekend I will try to put the 10mm H&R hubcentric spacer and see what happen. To put the 10mm spacer is not my choice; 'cause I feel it will be too wide at the front and might rub the tyres. Is there anyone have their Forgestar without or haven't need a spacer forn the front wheel?

You are the first I've heard of having to run a spacer up front. That's certainly not optimal and could introduce vibrations. What offset and width are your front wheels?

I have the 18"x8.5" with +44mm offset up front and have plenty of room. There are a few photos in my signature.

I have the 10mm H&R hubcentric spacers on my fronts with no vibrations.

I didn't need them to clear the brakes.

I put them on to have a wider and fatter stance in the front...wasn't happy with the ET44's in the front...but now they look great

High speed vibrations are most likely balance issue. Get them road force balanced. Tech should be able to tell you if they balanced well or not.
Make sure hub rings are correct size, they should be snug on the hub.
Are you using hubrings up front with the spacers? If you're putting spacers, it would be a good idea to pick up hubcentric ones.
Also if you leave the car parked for a long time, some tires are prone to flat spotting and will required to be heated up before vibration goes away.

The first time when I installed the wheels, we found that there is only have a gap less than 2mm between the wheel and the brake caliper. This set of rims I brought it from a member of this forum, he ordered for his C63, it is brand new and never been put on and everything were sealed when I inspected them. We both assumed there is no problem for fitting. The wheel is not touching but so close and I did not want to take the chance on it as a result 5mm spacer was put on for clearance.

When I order my H&R 5mm spacer, I was told they don't made 5mm with hubcentric but 10mm, I have both of them and I will put the 10mm one and hope the problem solve.

FYI...you will need longer bolts if you switch to the 10mm..to be safe...but i think you already mentioned to me that you already ordered them

I'm not using any spacers just the wheels on stock P30 suspension with the Forgestar provided bolts, they put them right back on the machine and told me they were well balanced, weights hadn't fallen off or anything. The owner mentioned that due to the unique design of the Vredesteins Sessanta Tires it might take a few more days to settle, does this make sense?

Those are good suggestions exdes, thanx but...

The tech told me that they balanced right away and I'm not using any hubrings or spacers....The vibration occurs right after short idle or parked for a short time and it gets worse after driving 15-20 minutes, vibration also gets unbearable at 140-150km/hr ie 85mph or more...Any one with experience with this that can offer a solution would greatly be appreciated.

Perhaps you need to be using hubrings? When you say you got your wheels balanced, what type of balancing? If it is not road force balanced, then you still need to consider you have a balancing issue.

Sadly I've had countless sets of aftermarket wheels in the past but putting on wheels on this car is driving me insane. I've used the entire H&R spacer product line a 5,3, and now a 10mm (w/ built in hubring).

I'm still having vibration issues @ 75mph but definitely not as bad as with the 5mm. So the vendor is going to bore out two new front wheels for me and build in a custom spacer (w/hubring) to ensure the wheels clear the brakes.

I don't understand why Forgestar didn't make these wheels hubcentric.

I have had to get all 4 of my wheels road force balanced in order to get rid of the vibration.

A lot of people on numerous forums are asking the same question on the center bore. You would think that with custom offsets they would be able to do custom bores as well.

Read about one guy with a ring and vibration. He loosened the wheel and rotated it 2 holes prior to tightening it again. He claimed it solved his vibration issue.

In regards to the tech and his claim to drive on the tires for a while because of balancing issues.

thanks to all for the recommendations and ideas...I brought it to a specialized garage and rebalanced the wheels on a Hunter and vibration is gone....

Also the tire pressure was way off originally....

cheers
