Went to the MB dealership and they had the C63 on the showroom floor next to the new SL550 convertible. I took a gander at the prices and my jaw hit the floor. The C63 was being sold new for $57,000 + tax and the convertible SL550 was $110,000!!!!!! WTF I started laughing and the saleswoman came over and asked me what was so funny. I asked why on earth anyone would spend almost twice the price for a car that has less horse power, less torque, less doors, less seats, just...... LESS. Then I asked what about it makes the SL550 more. The only answer she could give me is that it had something to do with the hard top convertible and how they have to reinforce the structure + the fact that the SL550 is their flagship. Hmmmm.... IS the SL550 MB's flagship?? IMO it's not, wouldn't it be the 600??? Either way I left shaking my head. C63 FTW!!!

Salesmen/women are terrible these days...

The whole reason that the SL550 is more expensive than the C63 is because of the luxury and refinement of the car. As the C63 is a high performance sedean, the SL550 is a luxurious cruiser and roadster.

A price of a vehicle is decided on more than just power; it's on factors on comfort, equipment, styling, and more.

BTW: The flagship vehicle of Mercedes-Benz is the S-Class

The SL550 in itself is not one of MB's flagships, but the SL line is one of them, whereas the C-Class is not.

some are not as experienced with MB's as the rest of us guys so give him a break. But yes the SL its a complete different car/market than the C63, and its top range joins the supercar league(SL65 BS)

Yup. A C63 might be a VERY sporty/nice C class, but it's still a C class.

For you to walk into a MB dealer and stand next to an S class and wonder why its more expensive than a C class wasnt really using your brain.

Look my point was never that the SL cost more than the C63, obviously an SL will cost more than a C class REGARDLESS if it is made by AMG or not... it's that it costs twice as much. You are not getting twice the car, what you are paying for is the name. The SL550 is pretty much the 3rd most expensive roadster out there (the SL600 and SL65 being the second and first) and I still fail to see how the SL550 commands the price tag. Sure the SL550 is a GREAT car (almost ALL MB's are) but do you believe they have the same profit margin on the SL550 as they do on the C63? They are making a KILLING on the SL550..... Either way to each his own.

Not trying to argue with you but what you're saying is every SL550 owner out there is nuts for paying that much for their car. Why don't you drive one for a few days (my dealer here lets good customers take demos for a whole weekend if so requested) and see if you can find a rationale for why one car costs so much more than the other. You can't really do this over a 10-minute test drive, which I'm guessing you haven't even had the chance to do yet.

If I didnt need a 4 door I would take a SL550 over a C63 any day. A friend of mine has one and its so sweet. Slower yes, but a far better car overall.

Also take a look at the price of a C63. 68K. Now look at what people paid for them. 52K. Thats 16K off the sticker and the dealer is still making a profit and so is MB. When you own a MB you are paying for the brand and the markup for that brand of every type is HUGE. That markup applies to every brand.

You could have just as easily asked why the SL costs so much more, if you were sincerely interested. Instead you came on here being a dick about it yourself with all your exclamation marks and WTFs and your hahaha attitude.
