"Bump in the day" - then some temp changes
Need some insight here.
Yesterday while out for a drive I ran over what seen to be some pliers which were on the road. There was lud near the right wheel well. No damage that I could see and no tire/rim damage.
However after the "event" I got some pretty strange temp readings. For background sake, the car has K1 tune and for the last year has been running consistent temps as follows
Oil - 208-212 constant (up to 221 under hard drive)
Coolant - 195F (up to 199 under hard drive)
These seemed a little high to me, but I chalked it up to the tune or just the engine. Anyway after the event mentioned above the temps have been as follows:
Oil 197-200F (then pushed it today and only got it to go to 203F)
Coolant - 197F stable (199 under push)
What has me perplexed is why the drop of almost 9 degrees in oil temp under normal driving and also the temp jumps around in 4 degree increments fairly quickly in the range of 195-200. I looked and there is not oil/coolant leaking that I can see, and there was no CEL. Very strange and am wondering if anyone else has seen this type of temp range swing in ECU tuned engines.

I had a similar experience - once. While I no longer remember the specifics it sounds like what happened to you. It was odd, but when I stopped for lunch and restarted, everything was normal again.

Going to have some work done on the car next week at the stealership (love that phrase) and will have them check it out. Car has been running fine and temps are stable at new levels and no CEL.

I believe that there is an oil cooler in the right front bumper behind the fog light. Maybe it got jarred and now it is cooling more. It probably has a bypass and maybe the sensor for it got jarred and now it is opening sooner. Just a guess and maybe something to check.
Good luck getting it figured out.

Not sure if this helps, but your ambient temp sensor is located in the bumper area.. Mine broke and/or got messed up when i hit some debris in the road once.

I think I see average temps of :
Oil 99*C - 101*C (210*F - 214*F) normal driving
Coolant 90*C - 92*C (194*F -198*F) normal driving
If you start to push it the Oil temps will go up as the oil will absorb a lot of heat from the heads from higher combustion temperatures.

Thanks for all the input. Will have them check out the sensors and see what the deal might be. I prefer the car to run cooler or at least the accurate temp readings to be lower. Will let you know results just in case someone else runs into this.

Well the car was checked out and they ran tests just to be safe. No damage to underside of the car and no damage issues with oil cooler. Car is running on warmish day (28C) like today at 199-204F oil/ 195-197F collant which is well within normal ranges. All seems well.

Here in the NE the summer has been extremely H&H.
I have seen my oil temps go as high as 252 for a brief second, on hard starts in traffic..normal so far is around 232 in traffic. Water temp constant at 199
