Next car for the rest of us....Huh?

What I mean is that Unlike some of our "more" $fortunate$ members here, I am fortunate enough to have one car at the time. DD, Car hobby, sunday drive is all in one car, and currently it is the C63.

I generally obsess with a car I am interested in owning for awhile(remember the VW bug commercial where a little bug is growing on the guy's head), learn as much about it, and invariably end up buying it. Every car I have owned from my first (92 tercel. Don't laugh) has been better and faster than the previous one. I am now thinking about my next potential car.

Since I feel that many of us are in the same $ and same generation as me, I open this question:

What would be your next desired car?

Think big picture. For example, for me, moving to a GTR is not as practical because I have a child seat. For me, moving up would be a car between $60k and 100k, so a Gallardo is out. The new M5, if faster han the current, may be an option.

(I know there is another thread, but It died)

Priorities, priorities, priorities,

Everyone, has there own. I have always been a car freak, and have always had the thought that I would rather have a big garage than a big house. I know of a guy that has 2 Ferrari's and a Ford GT that only lives in a 1500 square foot fixer-upper house, that is not in a "high class" suburbia neighborhood. Where do your ambitions lie? I am someone in the same boat as you, in the fact that I have 2 young children, that has caused me to narrow my view of what cars I should be looking at. If you like the C63 power and versatility, New coming cars in the same price, versatility, and performance range may include M3, RS5, Used E63. Other intriguing cars may be Cadillac CTS-V, 2011 Mustang GT, 2011 M5, 2011 CLS. Drove and Sat in 2009 GTR, 2010 Evora, 2011 911 Turbo S (all with smallish back seats), all great fun but very impractical. Sounds like you kid/kids are around the same age as mine. In 5 years or so, I perceive myself looking at the E or CLS AMG, or M5 model as my family is growing. However, if things are going well, preowned Porsche Panamera Turbo, Maser Quattroporte Sport GTS, or Fezza 612 may not be out of the question.

Neither of those options are suitable for a person with a baby seat requirement...

And really.. in the 4 door segment, there are few cars outside of the AMG lines that match performance. the C is much cheaper than the E63 which would be a nice bump in comfort, and an awesome family car.

Of course.. if you need a minivan to carry all that kids crap.. I say R63 is the way to go

You could try the CTS-V... 4 doors.. monster of a car.. but a GM vehicle.. I am not a fan of GM vehicles, but the CTS-V I would possibly make an exception for...

If I cannot find the CLK63 BS that am looking for. The next car I will probably replace my C63 will be a used SL65.. There is nothing like a V12 TT that looks that good and can will surely take anything in its path with the exception of a few exotics. Have in mind that I have no kids and not married either.

Not sure if you were recently looking in the CLK63 Black Series forum, but there are 2 silver and 1 white for sale right now.

Yea I've seen the ones for sale, specially the white one. The thing is, I would like to buy the car locally at least. It doesn't have to be a dealer but it has to be local and I must see and test drive the car in person. So far there is nothing near my area or a few miles away available but hopefully in the next few months I will find that white/silver BS with low miles.

That is tough question. For me its wether to keep the E or go with a C since there are so many more options for modifying.

Other than the C what else can you have that gives you everything it does for anywhere near the money? I dont know?

Can you put a babyseat in a CLK BS? Does it have seatbetls in the back?

Good luck!

There are no rear seats or rear seat belts in the CLK63 BS, so a baby seat is not going to work. Plus the seats don't fold forward (actually only they do, but not enough), which makes rear access very difficult.

It seems the next "logical step" in the OPs garage will either be the new 5.5TT MBZ E-Class or the new TT BMW M5, both coming out soon. That, or the CTS-V as mentioned or a lightly used S65. Then, after that...you better make some serious $bank$ or you're not moving up any further

The OP's description of himself and his car buying philosophy reminds me 100% of myself, and probably a lot of other forum members. If there actually turns out to be an AMG version of the proposed C-Class coupe that could be tempting. It would basically be the "new" CLK63 Black. But now that I've had a really fast four-door I kinda like it, and I'm not sure that I will ever go back to a coupe. They seem like a major compromise unless they are designed from day one (chassis-wise) to be a stand-alone model rather than just a sedan with longer front doors. Honestly, for an exciting semi-exotic daily driver there isn't much out there right now that can compare to the C63. In a couple years maybe, who knows.

By the way, not sure about the others here (and maybe I am in the minority on this one) but I am not in the least bit fascinated with the E63, nor do I consider it a possible "upgrade". It's one size too large to suit my taste, reminds me of an older gentleman's car, doesn't look as sporty as the C63, and is a bit too "serious". I can honestly say that even if they were the same price I would rather have a C63.

I would like a clk63 bs too, but it won't happen. The wifey wants to get a Porsche Cayenne within two years. Oh well.

svt raptor then either a gtr or clkbs. Im keeping my c63 unless the c63 station wagon finds it way over. figure 50 or 60k for a used 9 or 10 gtr in a year or so then another 17 for the switzer P800 mods. thats alot of car for 70grand. which will probably still be less than the clkbs and alot less than an acr viper.

Since you mention age as a factor, I'm curious how old you are?

I can see your point. Quality wise there is quite a difference in the E63 that comes with the price difference...plus the MCT transmission...and more space. The C63 does have that sporty look.

edit...after thinking about this for a few minutes, I think you feel the same way about the E-Class that I do about the S-Class. I like the C63 and E63 but consider the S63 to be the serious, "older gentleman's car" that's a bit too large for my taste. Though I could manage with an S65....

This is an easy question. F10 M5 for sure. Plus you won't pay for maintenance for 4 years although M5's will depreciate almost 40k in 2 years.

E55 AMG
My next car will most likely be a C63. That is why I lurk here all time. The E55 is just too unreliable for me since I am 2 hours from a dealership and have no Indy shops that I would trust due to the fact that they have never seen an E55. I have 3 years to see if the C63 stays reliable though. Airmatic and S/C are basically what I want to get away from. An e92 m3 has crossed my mind because I would kind of like a coupe but I just don't think I could handle the lack in torque, + I get kind of sick to my stomach when I think about leaving MB for BMW. The thought just doesn't sit right.

My point exactly.
Sofar, every car I wanted to buy would beat the car I had and was attainable. Seems to me that the next car that would be a respectable step up from the 63 would have to be an exotic.

Agreed. I don't see the E36 as any type of performance upgrade from the C.
I need something faster!!!

I think my answer to my own dilemma could be to heavily modify instead of upgrading to an exotic.

Those of you with kids and thinking of the new M5 as the next step up from the C63, it might be worthwhile checking out the interior space, particularly the rear seat legroom. It's a bit surprising how little rear seat legroom there is in the new 5 Series, especially when it's one size up from the C Class/3 Series/A4 level.
