The dealer I bought all my MB's from offered me a test drive right when the SL65 BS came out since they had two of them on the floor. Naturally, I declined. First of all, they didn't offer me a test drive just to have a good time. It's a business after all, and the objective is to make money, which I understand and respect. They offered it to me in hopes that I trade in my CLK63 BS and actually buy one.

I wasn't born into money and had to figure out a way if I wanted something, which meant working harder and being smarter than the next guy. There are no short cuts, at least no legal ones that I know of. If your dream is to drive a car like that, work a little harder to make that dream come true. Walk in there and write a check for it and I guarantee that you'll have a different view of the subject matter.
I don't see how a test drive is pointless. Like you, I wasn't born into money either (and still wonder where mine goes), but when it comes to vehicles I have almost ZERO brand loyality and I buy a car thats going to best suit my needs. I do countless hours of research, then follow it up by taking the time at the dealerships for the vehicles that are on my list and go from there. Before I bought my C63, I researched the C63, M3, ISF, and RS4. I had the dealers show me all the options on the vehicles (and how to use them), as well as a test drive. After everything I read, I was sure I was going to buy an M3 but the time in the dealership along with the test drive pointed me to the C63.

It's not your decision to make - GET IT ?!?!?
You're kidding me right? Let me spell it out for your learning-disabled brain:

A drive around the block is what the frakking car is made for. It's a car, it's got four wheels with tires capable of touching concrete without disintegrating.

Grasp that? Good...keep reading this next section, it gets dicey...

I NEVER said anything about treating the car in ANY manner, Mr. presumptuous DB.

SO that being said, you need to grab half a bottle of midol, some chardonnay and re-frakking-lax, Martha.

Any more issues or desire to put words in my mouth and judge me erroneously, feel free to PM me so I can at least delete it without reading it.

Thanks Martha!

Wow talk about a thread backfire. lol

I guess I should be flamed too since I have had some seat time in one with no intentions of buying. Granted it was per the BH GM's permission. Amazing is not the correct words to describe my test drive. Do I feel bad for the next owner? Absolutely not since I did no damage to any part of the vehicle. Some of you guys need to get off your high horse. Its laughable at best. You all would do the same given the opportunity. I mean, we are talking about 2 miles max here. Give the guy a freaking break.

EDIT: plus this guy doesn't seem like he would just redline it till the **** blows. Although I do understand the importance of keeping a car like this with super low miles I don't see why he should be crucified here. lol

Just sayin............

I didn't say a test drive is pointless. I said going around the block with no intentions of buying the car is pointless, again in my opinion. Most of my cars were special orders and in some cases the dealership didn't even have the car in stock for me to sit in or test drive. That doesn't mean an approach like this works for everyone. I'm only brand loyal to a certain degree, as I always end up buying a car that suits my needs and desires, regardless of what symbol is on the hood. Sometimes it just happens that I own either 2 Porsches, 2 Mercedes or 2 BMW's at the same time. I have a pretty good idea through research and personnel preference what I want before setting foot in any dealership.

We all have our ways of rationalizing a purchase, whether it's a house, a car or a watch. How you go about it comes down to personnel choice and not what someone else would have done instead.

Let me inform you on something, I have bought a C63, CL550 and ML350 from the specific dealership where im going to test drive the black. My company has also remodeled that entire dealership, including Lexus, Acura, Toyota, and Audi dealerships.
On top of all that i have a brother who has a respectable rank at that Mercedes dealership. BTW the SL black im driving is not brand new it has a couple of miles on it, and is being sold as a used car.
Yes, i think this qualifies me to take a car around the block once or twice.

So LZH anything you want to say???

LOL - sure, I have something further to add...
YOU'RE A TOOL. What, am I supposed to be impressed with your long list of accomplishments above ???
You really have an idiotic way of justfiying a joyride....becasue you have a few bucks, have done work for the dealers and your brother works there ??? Yeah, that should certainly get you the nod And if you feel so strongly that you deserve/are "qualified" for a test drive - then why not just go in there and speak to the head of sales and ASK FOR ONE instead of having your brother slip you in ?!?!?!?! LOL, don't bother answering that last question as we all know the answer, kiddo.

I've seen in your previous posts you live in CA...I assume SoCal...should not be hard to find which dealer in CA has 2 black SL Black Series' in stock and inform their shop foreman that some douche with and ML, CL and C has a brother who works there and is offering joyrides to family members - LOL.
But, something tells me from the way you think, the things you boast about and the logic you use to rationalize yourself...I'd say your nothing more than a young kid who is posing on the internet about the cars your Daddy owns.

I wouldnt say that's entirely true, i mean ive driven a Ferrari and Lamborghini without the intention of buying one. So why would i drive a black series if im not going to buy it you ask? Because i like to experience different cars, especially ones i will probably never have the opportunity to drive again, so why not just drive it for like 5 minutes??
You guys are acting like im going to drive the car the whole day, take it up to the canyons, beat the s*** out of it and bring it to the dealership, NO. I respect that car and don't plan on abusing it.

What a rat you are!!! that's exactly why i didn't name any dealerships, so you wouldn't snitch to the dealership like a how a kid goes tells there parents something. Wow dude that's really low of you.
Like i said you don't know who i am and what i do, so leave it at that. call me kiddo or whatever you want, its still not gonna change the fact that your a douche bag, and alot of people dislike you.
Have a good day.

Hmmmm....so, why would you not be open to divulging the dealer unless you saw something wrong with it ????? Clearly you do, and clearly your brother is NOT someone who is authorized to drive the SL BS, yet you thought you would boast about sneaking in a joyride on the internet - LOL. And you actually questioned MY intelligence ?!?!?!?!?
I think we all have a very clear picture of what's going on here....not to mention the growing inconsistencies in your stories....before you said you could have an SL BS but you'd have to sell a CNC machine or something....but just now you say you want to drive it becasue you will, "probably never have the opportunity to drive again."
I think some further digging may be in order....CH where you at ?

If you quote me, at least quote the whole sentence, not what suits you best. I said "in my opinion", which makes a big difference. Unless you have a reading disorder, and under the assumption that I fall into your category of "you guys", please point out in any of my posts where I said you'll beat the crap out of it the whole day? I couldn't care less whether you test drive that car or not.

How about this: Instead of investing all this energy in creating a thread and replying to it countless times defending yourself, which takes quite a bit of time, be as stubborn, focused and single minded as you are here and figure out a way to have the financial means to just buy it and test drive it for a few years? Just saying ...

I never pointed my finger at you, i will however point my finger at LZH. He has become a big nuisance.
Also, I completely read your post, and that is your opinion and i replied back with mine. SMP, I dont know you, but i know that i am not your enemy.
I have to admit that you do make sense in your second paragraph. I am a very reasonable person and if someone says something that makes sense, i will take it into consideration and agree with him or her....like im doing with you.
I don't have any hard feelings towards you.

LZH I finally figured you out. Are you even at a driving age yet? Life must be really hard to have everyone hate you this much that you would need to be this rude and disrespectful to others. I’m really not mad you, Just feel extremely sorry for you. This if your chance to make a change in your life by apologizing to AMG like a good little boy. I promise if you do I’ll send you a candy.

Maybe you can get your Dad to take you for test drive...Becasue after reading a few more of your posts...I'm very certain that you are just a kid posing to be someone your not. MBWorld CSI is on the case

True; it isn't. I searched earlier, as I was curious - one SL65BS is rare, but to have two, nearly identical ones? There's only one MB dealership in the entire country that appears to have that kind of inventory presently. Took me, I dunno, maybe 30 seconds to figure out the dealership it has to be.

Personally, I have two fond memories dealing with a somewhat-comparable situation. Once, in '02, I had my C Coupe in for service. My servicing dealership had a C32 AMG in stock. I commented to a salesman that I was in no way in the market for such a vehicle at that time (recent college grad, relatively low income), but if they deemed it appropriate, I'd greatly enjoy just being a passenger while he drove - just so I could experience the car's performance. He obliged, I was hooked, and I worked 'til I could buy my own someday (which, I'm happy to say, I did a few years back). The other time actually came earlier - I was in London, visited an exotic car dealership a few times just amazed by the Exiges (before we got 'em here), TVR's, etc. Told a salesman that I was from the U.S. and obviously couldn't buy anything, but if he'd take me for a ride I'd appreciate it. He said "meet me here in a few days at xx:xx, I'll take you out." He took me out as a passenger in a TVR Tuscan, and we blasted around the streets of Canary Wharf a bit... pretty surreal experience. In both cases, I felt good about the whole ordeal - but in no small part because I wasn't "pulling a fast-one" on anyone to enjoy the experience, or pushing my luck with a "hey, okay, now let me drive" move. But that's just me; as I said earlier, everyone's different.

In any event, this thread seems to have run its full course... probably should be closed by a mod/admin.
