This has got to be the stupidest shootout I have ever seen.
Watch towards the end. The first English guys DRIFTS the entire course of the handling test with the C63. If drifting improved track times, F1 and Indy cars would be doing it. Then the 2nd guy gets in and actually DRIVES the M3 around the track for the supposed whomping of the C63.
Least we know 1 thing for sure. Fifth Gear tosses Top Gear's salad.

whole track, when it comes to time challenge?!?!
Would love to see a REALL compare of both cars on the track with the same
driver without messing around in the C...i think the mpost-guys would
kill theirself for the result of it^^
But anyway, NICE DRIFTING!!!

I was actually going to start a thread about this subject, but a comment is enough since I'm sure by now everyone is pretty bored with the M3/C63 debate. It's easy to summarize, of course: They are both great cars, the M3 handles better and is quicker on a track, and the C63 is faster in a straight line and probably a better daily driver. My comment was really about how totally absurd for the vast majority of buyers this whole "track" testing thing has become. I love Top Gear as much as the next guy, but on the first show of the new season a couple weeks back they tested a new Bentley Supersport (a drool-worthy car if ever there was one, and sort of the big brother of the C63 in my mind) and were surprised that it was a handful on their test track, and that after what seemed like about an hour of non-stop drifting the thing had eaten it's rear tirmes. Hmmmm.....5000 lb car with 600hp and God knows how much torque being driven like a go-kart on a test track. What exactly did they expect? More imortantly, does anybody ever take their Bentley Continental GT to a track-day? I think not. Not to mention the fact that it would be totally insane to even attempt to replicate that kind of driving on the street. My point is that back in the old days when Road & Track, Car & Driver, etc. tested a car they gave you 0-60 times, 0-100, 1/4 mile, etc. A nice skid pad number too so you knew if the car could get out of it's own way. That was pretty much all you needed to know, and for most of us it still is. Now even Motorweek on PBS is track testing their cars. And if I see another car ad that mentions Nurburgring lap times I think I'll be sick. Sure an M3 is a couple seconds quicker around a race track. Does that matter to me? Not in the least. The only time I ever pay attention to an M3 is when it's getting smaller in my rearview mirror on the freeway. I guess he must be slowing down looking for a race track, to show me what it'll really do.

Ok, fine, it's probably faster on track (drifting aside), but so what? Ok, fine, if you buy the car solely for track use, then go with the stupid beemer. But who really wants a sickeningly stiff car as a DD? I wouldn't say the C63 is a soft car, so just imagine what the M3's like...Not my cup of tea :P

This discussion never ends. Why is BMW even considered as a comparison? There is nothing out there that can compare to a Mercedes! Not saying that BMWs are horrible vehicles. BMWs just can't compete with Mercedes. They should run along and compete with Audi, Lexus, and the others. Mercedes is on a completely different level and has been for some years now.
