Best X-Pipe?

Hi all,

Definitely looking to add an X-pipe to my car after reading all the reviews here. I've heard Magnaflow pop up but some complaints about it as well. I've heard GT PRO's is the best quality but the gains are not there, the $$$, and he's also been MIA lately.

What is the best X-pipe solution out there? Don't really know a good custom fab guy here in Dallas. I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks guys!

Can anyone help? I did a search but was looking for an easier solution than a custom X-pipe.

Orient, what I did was order a stainless high flow x-pipe from Summitracing and took it to my local muffler shop then put it in place of my secondary cats. This is what I would recommend doing.

Thanks Ammo. Does it have to be welded in or is GT Pro the only one with a slip joint?

Also, it is 2.5" diameter, right?

No problem. Yes I think GT-pro has the only one with a joint but I think their might be one spot that may require welding(not 100% sure). Yes, I went with a 2.5 x-pipe. Best part of going custom is the cost. Was roughly half the price gt-pro quoted me.

I do like the reversibility of the GT Pro one. If I don't like it or it gets too loud, you can just put the secondary cats back in.

AMMO, which specific X-pipe did you order for Summit?

Also, anyone have a video of a stock C63 running with the X-pipe as their only mod? If I'm going to weld, I want to be comfortable with the sound. I know everyone says it sounds great, but I just don't want it to become a PITA if for some reason I don't.

Thanks in advance!

Orient, as I stated I think you may have to weld anyhow so it doesn't make a difference. I went with part #643125 http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-643125/

As to the sound, in my opinion it is just slightly louder. It is hardly noticeable until you mash the pedal.

From what I've read there were no welds and only one cut with the GT Pro piece. I will see if I can dig up the thread.

I've reached out to Superlubricity to find out. He posted a detailed review of his Single X from GT Pro. I'll let you know his response.

I have a GT PRO Single X (I bought online) and I went with it for many reasons. MID RANGE power, I don't care about a peak number, but it was sold to me with the promise that if I didn't see power and feel power I could return it no questions asked. I had my guy install it (took him 20-30mins tops), and install only ended up costing me $50.00!! I like the fact I can reverse any time I want especially with maybe selling in the future, I do NOT want my exhaust all chopped and welded, and I'm willing to spend the extra bux to make my car clean and perfect which this pipe did. Could I have gone El-Cheap-O sure..but I spent my hard earned cash on my car and I'm not going to butcher it up. Anyways, after the install I took it to dyno and picked up 19rwhp in the mid range, the "peak" number was 13rwhp, but man the sound is incredible!! This thing looked like a piece of art the welds were sooo nice, I almost didn't want to install it LOL!! Anyways, thanks guys!! I'm happy.!

I just ordered mine today from www.ronalsales.com. That is who Brian said would be selling his products. They also have the catless downpipes.

From what I know they ship worldwide, I think I saw a member here from Japan that has it, and uhhh I remember another from somewhere in the middle east.

if you have a good welder , you shouldn't have to worry about your exhaust being "chopped up" . as far as the " El-Cheap-O " comment , i think AMMO1000hp was just giving an inexpensive alternative to x-pipes built exclusively for the c63 . an x-pipe is an x-pipe no matter what name is making it . those dyno #'s that you are getting are great and should be expected from any x-pipe , given the same size and dimensions . i can assure you that i am going to enjoy my " El-Cheap-O " as much as you enjoy your GT PRO . why not save some money on a pretty universal part and use it towards future mods . i'm not knocking GT PRO cuz they make a solid product . i just think this is a great alternative .

Has anyone tried the catless downpipes from GT-Pro. For $800, they seem to be a reasonable alternative to headers and the claimed increase in hp is good.
Any videos of the set up would be awesome as well as feedback for drone in the car if any and how much of an increase in sound?
It seems that with an X pipe and downpipes, a claimed 50hp could be achieved... food for thought.

Bad430, thanks. Thats exactly right. An x-pipe is an x-pipe(depending on the design). If you feel better paying the Benz tax by all means go for it. I was just giving out a more reasonable option

emericr, lol I would love to see that 50hp gain. Not gonna happen unfortunately. I believe superlube tested it out with no real gains.

Superlube did his own set up and it was also with headers, I don't think that would be a fair comparison.

I dunno, but I feel I got something tangible for my money, and the fit and finish I was glad to pay for, it looks like it belongs with this car, and I could not be happier. Have I bought cheaper stuff when I had my Sti? sure, but no where near the quality and multiple times I had weld cracking on my up-pipe..From what I know is that not ALL X pipes are created equal, there are a lot of factors such as in headers, such as X entry angle, length of merge, interior finishing purged or not purged, trust me I did my homework before I purchased..I'm glad I did it. Plus I plan or trading in at my 2 year mark, and I want to be able to revert back to stock, and this allows me to do so very easily.

BTW, did the GT PRO guy **** you off for some reason? Seems like you have something against him, is there something I need to know??

On the "Benz tax" I was however not real happy with the "Benz tax" I paid for my tuning!!! $1500.00 for something I can't even see..and from what I know MHP gets like $5000 or something crazy like that? and like $7000 for headers??? but people still buy them, even superlube bought those $7000 headers!!! I had my Sti tuned on the dyno for $500.00!!! TOTAL!! agghh, oh well that's my rant LOL
