Big thanks for taking the time and $$ to work this issue. I'm definitely interested when the tuning issues are worked out. That lope at idle is awesome. When folks hear that coming from a Merc, they will be completely baffled.

Quote: I am no cam guru by any stretch but generally you are correct. The closer the lobe separation the greater the overlap and the more aggressive the cam. Idle will be rougher and lumpy and the operating range of the cam will be higher in the rpm range. It will be harder to get the engine to idle smoothly and to get the car to accelerate from a stand still without using higher rpms.

Variable cam timing in our cars may if fact lessen the affect of lobe separation a little in the lower rpm range. Best of both worlds to an extent.
Thanks for the response, Mort.

This is good information.

I don't think the regulars here doubt you.

Ok, so quick question........
Now that we've changed the cams, are we going to be getting a hard time from everyone about not be a "NA" car anymore????

My answer is NO, it's still NA, just with different cams, but still NA.

JUST A QUESTION?????

I'm sure there will always be an * after everything we do from here on out, but I guess that's how it works.

Can't wait to get it back on the road/track. It might even cool off enough here in Florida to get some decent DA numbers.

N/A is N/A, he can stroke it, raise the compression and so on as long as he doesn't put a turbo or supercharger on it its N/A.

How would switching cams make something not N/A? I don't see why anyone cares if it's N/A or what they're idea of what a daily driver is or isn't... I wouldn't build a car for the sake of other people opinions, especially those sitting behind a computer from thousands of miles away.

lol i don't know, i thought it was something like the meat trick.

For those of you that don't know it's when you touch your fingers to your thumb and that fleshy part of your palm right under your thumb is supposed to tell you how done the meat is.
