Thanks guys! I am looking forward to it for sure, but I will always be a C63 guy as I still love this car! Best bang for $ on the market and great machine. I will probably end up buying another one down the road...might have to hold off until the BS version arrives though. Then the modding insanity can start again!

Good Afternoon,
I want to update everyone on the progress and shipping of the hoods. They have completed five more hoods and they are shipping to the individuals below because they are outside the USA and having to pay the air freight themselves. I cannot make a shipment here until all 15 are complete and they couldn't get them complete until after the upcoming Chinese New Year. They are all on holiday from next Tuesday until Feb 15th. They basically shut down for three weeks and there is nothing I can do about that. I apologize its taking longer than expected but these are the facts and I want to keep you updated. I also want to give you the opportunity to have your hood shipped air at your expense if you want to. Thats not my intention but I think most of us are impatient and want it sooner more than later.

Stone Carbon will return to production Feb 15th. It will take them approximately three weeks to make the remaining hoods so they can make a sea shipment to us here in the US. Sea freight takes approimately 30 days so now we are to the end of March possibly first of April when they arrive here. Then I will ship them to you immediately. If all goes well you should have your hood by mid April. I know that date seems out there but thats the schedule we've been dealt because of the Chinese New Year. Like I said from the beginning communication is the key and I am being as transparent as I can. I know we may not like it but you understand. THANK YOU again for the orders and I am doing the best I can.

I got a quote from the body shop to paint the edges, clear, wet sand out all blemishes(bubbles/dimples), and reclear is $600. Looks incredible!! Color matching could be a problem but we can talk about that.

The color matching dilemma does make me a little nervous but his
work looks phenomenal.

 

I'm thinking about the same thing... but I can't imagine it would be too bad (or even visible) since we have it in 'black' , I would be more worry if the paint is in other lighter colors.

 

You should get it done too.

I thought because mine was Obsidian Black metallic it may be a problem, I guess I was nervous over nothing.

 

The color match conversation was primarily directed at my car. As we all know red will fade quicker than most colors and my car is 2 1/2 years old. Dave did tint the Mars red paint slightly to compensate but he is a perfectionist. I doubt if anyone will have an issue especially since a seam will divide the hood and the quarter panel.

I picked the car up yesterday after sunset and we had heavy showers all day today. I still haven't seen it out in bright sunlight but hope to this weekend. There are a couple more things to be finished so worse case is I will have pics up on the 29th.

 

What are you guys using for a liner? Is it even needed?

 

Congrats Dave... I'm so jealous!! I just saw the SLS at the Auto Show, and got to drive it in MT-Tremblant circuit... what a perfect car all around.

BTW, are you parting out your CF parts? Sorry for the thread jack Dads! Props for your great products.

 

No liner for the carbon hood. Its painted black on the bottom side.

 

Are you not worried that high underhood temps will cause the carbon fiber to delaminate and/or discolor ?

 

Nope, I've had a non vented carbon fiber hood with no liner for over a year without any problems. The new vented design will help reduce the underhood temps so the potential problems will be even less.

 

Keith, are you using the OEM hood struts? Have you found a softer solution?

 

The stock OEM hood struts work fine.

 

That would be 6 months of waiting.

How much would be shipping by air directly from China to my door in US ?

 

Hey Guys,
I am going to apologize up front because they were not able to ship the hoods before the Chinese holidays as scheduled. I have no control over this but they will be back Feb. 15th and go immediately back into production. They will begin shipping that week and the weeks following. I know this process is taking far longer than planned and I am doing all I can to move as quickly as possible. All 20 hoods have been paid for in full and as soon as they are done they are shipping. Please understand the situation I find myself in and give Stone Carbon a few more weeks to produce and ship. Thank you for your understanding. Only one hood shipped before the holiday to London.

I realize that I am a brand new business and I am only as good as my suppliers. Please trust me when I tell you that this definitely challenges my patience and my reputation. I did chose a supplier that has years of positive business in China and has an excellent reputation in the market. They already have a vented hood and their quality is excellent. These holidays are causing us problems since they just started production but please understand its a timing issue.

It cost approximately $500 USD to have the hood shipped direct air door to door DHL. I will pay $100 of that if you chose that option to try to compensate you for your wait. I'm sure many will agree that your reputation as a business man is one of integrity. You cannot help avoid this unanticipated wait and you are trying everything to get the hoods to the customers.
