Cadillac CTS-V commercial

Slightly off-topic but I had to comment on this. Recently saw a TV advert for the CTS-V showing the sedan lapping the Nurburgring while the voiceover narration salutes and thanks the high standards set by the BMW M5 and Benz E63 for providing inspiration to the Caddillac designers and engineers. They very politely, and without attacking their competition, mention that the CTS-V is now the fastest sedan around the Ring. After recently enduring months of pathetic attack-oriented politial ads on TV from both sides, and reading so many silly fanboy anti-BMW posts on this and other forums, I have to give a big salute to GM and Cadillac for producing such a classy and car-guy oriented type of marketing. The performance of the CTS-V really is outstanding for an American car company, and we can all be proud that America can still build a car like this in today's enviro-councious world. We can be even prouder that they see fit to advertise it in such a classy way. A lot of big companies around the world could learn from this example. But then again, I'm sure they have plenty of focus groups and polls that show the crappy attack ads are the ones that people remember. That's how Jerry Springer became a millionaire. Good on Caddy for doing it the right way.

You are correct that the advertising was well done. Obviously if MB, Jaguar, BMW, Aston and Maserati produce high end "take no prisoners" 4 door saloons, why not Cadillac. The CTS has been a very popular car and by having competing for the top dog award, it raises visibility for the regular cars.

It might be almighty around the ring and it sure is fast, yet it still looks like it was designed with just a ruler... The coupe is even worst, I wonder what they were thinking.

funny how they plug this time as the fastest four door, but the Panamera Turbo bested it by over 3 seconds--still impressive that Caddy has done so well.
Also, I'm sure the new M5 will beat those numbers, I hope not, but I'm sure the BMW engineers got their panties in a bunch when they saw this commercial--the last M5 was a pig

Also, I'd love to see numbers for the P31 C63 around the ring, I don't think it would reach the Caddy's numbers, but I bet it would be faster than the E63 and M5--but MB wil never let that happen, God forbid the AMG hierarchy gets shook up

The last two comments are funny. One car (CTS-V) designed with only a ruler, and another (Panamera) designed without one. The Panamera easily wins my personal award for worst looking car on the road (I don't even count the X6 as a car), which is all the more sad because I'm sure it drives great. What were they thinking? The new Audi A7 is a hatchback too, but it still has some class.

I never said the Panamera was awesome looking--I just said it has a faster time than the CTS-V and has four doors--for what it's worth, I'd drive the P-car any day over the CTS-V
Have you seen the Panamera Turbo in real life? I have and I must say they look better in person, still not the best looking car in the world, but it's not the worst either!

I think the commercial said that the CTS-V is the fastest production sedan in the world.

With the rear end of the Panamera, not sure that it qualifies as a sedan, even with 4 doors...

Panamera v. CTS

The Panamera is hideous, saw it at Brumos and the car has no style. It was a car looking for a market - I expect it to flop for Porsche. I DON'T want a four seat Porsche. Unfortunately the CTS' angular looks are dated, Cadillac needs to seriously consider their lines - it looks like all their other cars that only the seasoned citizens would buy.

The panamera is a swagga wagon. If I wanted a wagon that would definitely be on my list. The X6 is HAWT. I wish I could have afforded one with the options I wanted. It reminds me of a hot wheels car...only Life-Size!

Beauty is the eye of the beholder. For me the Panamera is just okay. The X6 looks like a modern VW Bettle... fugly.

I love the CTS-V commercial. They should make one of the E63.

Obviously the Panamera's look are controversial. However what is not the performance of that car. The TT is objectively the fastest 4 door sedan. How they achieve 0-60 in 3.9 secs on a car that heavy is an engineering feat. I do like the look and from the numbers they are selling, it is a winner for Porsche.
Does anyone know the numbers off hand for the C63, CTSV and Panamera?

Great visuals, but their target audience remains a mystery in my mind. They seem to be challenging every 4x4 & 4x4-ish buyer on the planet. Too little focus imho.

The X6M is pretty mean in the right color though.

Preach.

Also, having grown up in MBs, when the time comes for me to have a big sedan, five years ago I would have looked for an S class of some type; however, it feels l like the lack of updates to the look of the S class are the proverbial monkey on the back. The Panemera, whether due to the lack of big production numbers or something else, seems more up to date and more fitting as far as the look of a six-figure car.

I agree with OP. I was actually a little bit stunned when I saw the commercial. I didn't expect them to say something good about the competition.
