Considering a move to Porsche 996/997 TT EvoM

Anyone have experience driving modified 996/997 Porsches -and- C63? I love the beast, don't get me wrong, just looking at other track-friendly options. 500+hp Porsche 996/997 twin-turbo manuals are looking mighty attractive right now!

Appreciate any feedback from Porsche + C63 owners.

If you can afford it and dont need the 4 door its a no brainer.

Wait till dr jitsu sees this thread. He will help you. Look at the topics at 6speed, all the 996/7 TT fans are there.

I'm also thinking about a getting 997TT in the following years. Get one if you can afford, I agree with propain. You won't look back.

Its comparing apples to oranges. The C63 as fast as they are right off the showroom floor does not make them great track day cars.

Its only MONEY in fact ALOT of it. 997 Turbo has a very high price of admission.

My modded 996tt was fast, reliable and handled. My C63 is also fast, reliable and handles but is a better car to move and carry people and stuff. Even though the TT's will also do the same they are more of a Sunday fun car. I love them both. The TT is easy to mod and remains reliable, I haven't touched my C63 yet...yet....

That and you can sit in the passenger seat and let it drive itself around the track.

Well,I agree 110%..but he didnt mention GTR. Early 996tt are pretty reasonable cost wise, but you still pay the Pcar tax when modding

I'm in the same boat. Since picking up an X5 for the wife I am now the sole driver of the C63 99% of the time so the space and roomier rear seats is not really required anymore.

My problem is that reading up on the 996/997 threads everyone seems to be drooling over the new PDK tranny so while you can get pretty good deals on the 996 and early 997 the PDK version is still running a pretty premium price.

Back to convincing the wife that I really need this upgrade

Wink

I just moved from a 996 with a factory X50 kit to a 2011 C63. Very different cars. I do plan to get another 911 Turbo, but I don't think I want it as my daily driver next time around. The 996 X50 definitely outperforms the the C63 (after all, twin-turbo and AWD) but the C63 is fun to drive and is no slouch. I had no intention of getting a C63 until I went into the dealership to see an ML for my wife and the salesperson asked me if I ever drove one. She pulled the car out of the showroom, gave me the key and said, "Have it back by 5pm." That was it; I was sold. Practically, it was C63 over the SLS since I was looking for a daily driver. The ride on the 911 is stiff and the PSM traction system corrects everything. I can say, that I think I'm a fairly good driver, but could never outdrive the 996 X50.

Bottom line, they are different cars. Some guys like blondes, others like brunettes. If you have a choice, get both.

Im a huge Porsche fan and i have to say the 996TT or any other 996 just looks like crap that dash just should be set on fire.It looks like a dash from a ford. As for the 997tt very nice car. I however, still like the 94 3.6 turbo. To me thats when porsche really built a porsche. Just me....

I sold my 996tt with an Protomotive K24/18g setup about a year ago and truly miss the beast. I feel I really slowed way down going into sl55. If you want speed and performance and like to throw a stick around go with the Porsche, with some mods= YOU WILL OWN THE ROAD!
