Update w/ Video :: Exhaust Inserts (Silencers) for MHP Long-tube Headers :: C63
The catless MHP long-tube headers are crazy-loud @ cold start and under Wide Open Throttle. I've been hunting for a way to silence this for daily-driving.
I'm happy to say the solution MHP came up with works and it is fairly easy to install/remove. A lift (or some high jack-stands) is required so you can easily remove the mid-pipes.
There are two parts to the system.
- The Silencers
- Modified O2 sensor caps/plugs
The MHP mid-pipes come with extra O2 bungs and caps already in place. These modified O2 plugs replace the existing O2 caps. After the plugs are in place, the silencers simply slide into the front of the mid-pipes until they stop at the plug. It's like having a little muffler inside the 3" mid-pipe located right after the collector. Note: A little ring welded at the front of the silencer makes it easy to pull/remove.
After installing these, I've tamed the beast. Cold starts are no longer brash shotgun like blasts out of my garage. It still sounds very aggressive but the really obnoxious bark is gone. I'm finally comfortable starting this car in the morning. When it's time for the track, I'll simply pull them out.
I don't have any fancy photos other than what I quickly shot when I had them installed. They should give you a visual of how it works.
Silencers and modified plugs:
Looking into the Silencer (notice the Ring/pull in front):
Inserting the Silencer into the mid-pipe:
Long-term, I'll be working on a simpler easy-out system using V-band clamps. I'd like to be able swap out this silencer at the track without the need for a lift. Stay tuned as I continue to tweak this with my local installer.

Genius.
Having owned an obnoxiously loud LT-equipped car, I commend this endeavor and I'm happy to hear it's working.
Does the car feel less powerful when driving around with the silencer inserted?

Also, it looks like the inside of a regular glasspack without the packing. Now we just need your typical before and after dyno.

Once I have them where I can easily remove and replace I'll test out the power differences at the track.
Silencers are identical in diameter. I took the first photo at a weird angle with my BlackBerry to avoid the flash/glare. They fit very sung inside the 3" diameter mid-pipes. You can reach out to the manufacturer regarding pricing, etc.

You may have just sold me a pair on MHP long tubes. How easy are these to remove and put back?
Do you have a before and after sound clip?

I have contacted cargraphic regarding using same parts with cargraphic system and here is there reply:
what do you think ?
Hello Abdullah,
So I have just checked with my collegue and he told me that he do not advise the part which you have send me the pictures! Because with this part the exhaust gas back presure would be to high, and that's not good for the motor!!

Hey Super, considered a set of in-line Dynomax Race Bullets?
http://www.dynomax.com/mufflers.php?muffler=racebullet
They might take the agressiveness out without sacrificing too much flow, might even be able to just leave them in full time...

These silencers are for sale however I do not have the modified plugs anymore.
Any exhaust shop could easily make the plugs in a couple minutes.
Best offer + shipping take them. PM me if you want them.

I realize I'm bumping an old thread but I'm interested to find out more about these "inserts". The picture links are down and I can't find any website/url for MHP. Thanks in advance.
