which rear tire to get?

Hey people!

I am finished up with my continental C5. I wanna get 265/275. C63 is my dd. I would love to have more grip. Otherwise the ESP light always come on Especially in the rain. Also I want it to be quiet.

Have you considered Continental DW in 275 for the rear? If your concerns are the lack of traction in wet/rain conditions, that might help you out a tad.

I have DW tires in 265/35/18 on the back and love them.

I was looking at the Conti's DW as well. Not a bad price compared to the others plus it has gotten good reviews.

Has anyone tried Vredestien tires?

They're not bad, I'd say mid-tier (above average).

Sorry to hijack, but my PS2's are running low in the rears.. I love the PS2's and I get a lot of life out of them usually, but they do get a little pricey after getting a few sets.. Anything with similar performance and life?

If going 275/30/19 in the rear, is there any brand to stay away from due to being too wide to fit?

I'm using the Factory Conti 5's right now and they have slightly better wear ratings than the PS2's. I believe the PS2's have a wear rating of 220 and the Conti 5's have a rating of 280. Performance wise, they work well.

I am a DD and was wondering if having a high tread wear rating will you get any more miles on them and is there a difference in noise? I want to get 265 or 275 but worried about losing miles. I know i will be changing tires very often but would like to try and make the most out of them.

I've personally tried 4 different tires on the back of my C63.

255/35-18 Pirelli PZeros (OEM)
275/35-18 Nitto NT05 - Photos
275/35-18 Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 - Photos
285/35-18 Nitto NT555R Drag Radials - Photos

My all-around favorite tire for this car is the Michelin PS2. It seems to do everything well. If you aren't in an extremely cold environment and want maximum performance it is a fantastic choice. I have a lot of confidence when these are on my car.

If you are looking for a tire for straight-line acceleration that simply "hooks" and aren't in to road racing or spirited cornering on the street, the Nitto NT555R Drag Radials are an amazing R-compound tire. They are very "streetable" provided it isn't too cold or wet out. They can handle rain just fine provided you have some tread still.

The Nitto NT05 tires were great when warm and dry but I didn't like them in the rain at all. There were many occasions where my rear end kicked out on wet corners at low MPHs.

Hope this helps. Good luck in your decision.

Haven't tried those, so I can't comment. But generally, it's best to stay away from all-season tires, even if they claim to be "high-performance".

My brother has the Extreme Contact and swears that he would never get another tire. In the snow he says it's like a train on tracks.

I've decided on the ExtremeContact DW's after a couple sets of PS2's.. Supposedly not a lot of performance/tread loss (if any), and overall good reviews, and significantly cheaper than PS2's as well..

Anyone recommend sizes for stock rims? I think I'm running 245/35/R18 front and 265/35/R18 on the rear PS2's now.. I can fit 275 on the back right? Would 35 be too big now? Since it'll be a percentage of 275 instead of 265, right?

Many have stated you can run 245/40's front and 275/35 rears safely without any rubbing whatsoever. How are your PS2's feeling? I'm thinking of those as my new tires when the time comes. Big fan of Michelin. My stock Continentals feel a bit rough.

PS2's are awesome, great, great tires but way too much money. I used to justify em because I used to get great wear per set on the rears, so I figured it was worth it going through 1 set versus 2 sets of a cheaper tire.. But I've been hearing good things about the Conti ExtremeContact DW's so I'm going to give it a shot.. They beat out the PS2 this time around on the tirerack tests overall so they can't be that bad.

But yeah, if you don't mind spending a little more I don't know if you can find a better max performance summer tire IMO.

If you want alot of grip go with Nitto NT05's or Nitto 555R's. Bridgestone RE-11 and Dunlop Direzza Star Spec are also great tires.

I am currently running Hankook tires and I think they are awesome tires for the price.

my tires are shot so need to change and the Pzero's are going sligk way too fast.
how high for front and rear are you running? stock front is 235/40/18 and rear is 255/35. i really dont want to mess with the height because when the tires get too high it just doesnt look right in my opinion.
how is the handling?
thanks

The Conti DW's are nice.. but good luck finding them. They also do not last long, longer then the PZERO, but still not long, I have had my 265 DW rears on for about 6 months and they are done (granted I do about 100 miles a day commuting).

I am looking at getting the Conti DWS, I'm really done getting tires every 6 months.. and I have only had the car for less then a year..
