OE Tuning C63 AMG
11.150@125.389 OE Tuning C63 with Gintani Headers & Exhaust
After recent cancelation of Famoso track rental, I decided to drive to Sacramento to run the quarter mile (I wanted to run bad and didn't want to wait until March 25th). After analyzing the weather it looked like Saturday was going to be good. Late Friday I installed a Quaife diff (thanks to Aram of Hiline Racing) and was ready. I decided to leave at 5am to beat the traffic, ETA of 11-11.30am. While driving through the infamous "Grapevine" on CA5 I experienced SNOW! Yes, it was snowing hard. An inch of ground cover on the HWY and I was running NT555R drag radials on stock rims . All I can say is slippery. At this moment, turning around did cross my mind. Anyhow, I kept on and made it to the track in good time. As this was a "Test-n-Tune" day cars running faster than 11.499 had to run a roll cage (which, I didn't have). So I started the day working on launches. I had trouble all day with hookup as there was no track prep and only 5 cars out. Mikesamg came late with his E55K and said it would be ok to do full passes. So, what they hey. The results were good. I ran a 11.150@125.389 with a VBOX 60-130 0f 8.19.
I have a video of the run here:

BTW the Grapevine was closed on the way back with a 5 hour detour.

Good job, get back out there and get that thing faster. How were the 60's in all your practice runs, what would you say was the average 60' with the Nitto's?

What are you C guys running 4000rpm stalls or something???!!! How did he get the R's up that high without her moving??!!!
I really mean it. Was that a dump from neutral or something!??
THAT was run to watch!!

For instance, the stall rpm that you would choose for your converter would depend on the power level of your car. I don't think it's an exact corollary (spelling?) but, if you increase your power, you can get away with a lower stall. I know this isn't consistently the case because it really depends on what you want your car to do.
Do you want a full-time race car? If so, you can use a really high stall, even if you have a lot of power. But, for a streetable car, you can run a lower stall that, I think, would function as a higher stall than advertised because of torque mutiplication from increasing power.
This is my basic understanding. I don't know if it's true. But, I would not mind to be corrected so that I and others can learn more about this topic.

It does, however, sound like Jeremy's car worked pretty well with that Nitto drag radial.
Great run though, i'm sure you had fun and it's good to see someone on the West coast putting up some numbers. Pomona was this weekend and it seemed like a perfect weekend for drag racing out there.

I don't think Jeremy is launching from as high an RPM as indicated in the video. I really doubt that Jeremy's using the high stall converter. I think what you may be hearing is the video and the sound are out of sync. I could be wrong but, I think if Jeremy was launching from the RPM you hear on the video you would have heard a different engine reaction to the 60'.

LOL, just watched it again. Yeah the video is out of sync. Gotta admit when you first see it, you just sit there stunned. Heh, I guess if she hooked that hard at 4000rpm, the fronts would be in the air.

This will all be figured out in time, it is just going to take more people pushing the limits and experimenting to see what can be done. It's good to add Jeremy to the mix so, hopefully, we will all learn off of each other to make these cars much faster for everyone.

Yeah, that is what the torque converter is for. I am not very well versed so I would not be the person to best address how it works. I can tell you that the transmissions that Mercedes use probably have a sensor (that measures RPM) on the input shaft (the shaft that goes into the transmission from the engine), the internal gear set, the output shaft (the shaft that goes to the rear end and also uses a measurement of the engine rpm to calculate certain things with the TCU. When you make a modification to the torque converter all of those values are going to change because you are going to increase the slip between the engine RPM and the output shaft speed and it may throw something into limp mode.

I'm definitely grateful that Jeremy made a big effort to further test this platform and OE's mods.

Congrats Jeremy...that is really scooting!
BTW...did you have any weight reduction over stock, besides the stuff from the trunk?
Good job man, tens are in your sights.

You are 100% right. If you go full screen on the video you can see the tach is out of wack with the audio.
Great run Jeremy! Car sounds great. Smellin 10's!!
What is the full list of mods for this run other than the headers, race exhaust and tune. Was this a 91 Octane tune? Any other weight reduction?
